My fiance and I were visiting Lisbon and we signed up for the Alfama and Belem free walking tours; no one showed up from Discover Walks. We received a confirmation email containing the location to meet them and they did not show. Thankfully, a different free walking tour company was there and they had told us they hadn't seen Discover Walks doing tours for at least six months. Luckily, we were able to jump in on their tour.

Enjoyed the tour and learned a lot

We enjoyed our customizable walking tour for a family of 4 with Fahim (it was arranged by J5 travel). The tour targeted mostly the area of Alfama, but on the way walked through other areas as well. Fahim is a terrific guide - very knowledgeable through his education background and personal interests, he is an engaging story teller and is good with kids. We stopped for a drink of Jingha, briefly chatted with locals and artists, Fahim took a few of our family photos, and taught us how to distinguish historical restaurants and shops from "tourist traps". He was able to answer multiple historical, architectural (general and preservation) as well as cultural questions - we had a great tour and learned a lot! We would recommend this guide to anyone with no hesitation!

Free Walking Tour Alfama - Excellent with Joao!

We had 4 kids from 5 years old to 12 years old and this was a great tour. Joao was a fantastic tour guide. Very engaging with the kids and gave an excellent history lesson as well as recommendations on modern activities around Alfama. I would definitely recommend this tour. It was only 90 minutes and it is the perfect start to exploring the Alfama area! Definitely recommend this and Joao.

Great Alfama walking tour

We had kids ages 6-12 and they all loved listening and learning from John! He was a fantastic guide and the length was perfect for both parents and kids. Highly recommend this free (for tips) walking tour!

Excellent Tour of Alfama

We enjoyed a superb walking tour of Alfama with Rahim. Not only did we see parts that the average tourist would never see but Rahim really enabled us to understand Portugal and the Portuguese. Very enjoyable afternoon. Don't book pay in advance walking tours go on the Discover Walks website and pay them what you thought it was worth. Personally it was the best 15 euros I spent in Lisbon.

Free Alfama walking Tour

We met with our guide, who was in the easy to find location and wearing a bright pink vest so we couldn't miss her, and off we went to walk the small narrow streets of Alfama. Our guide was Catarina, she was very knowledgeable about the history of Alfama and Lisbon in general and spoke great English. We went places that we would have never found on our own and we had such a great tour...and all for the price of a tip at the end. It was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon in this beautiful area. Thanks you so much

Great overview of Belem

We were spoiled by the experience we had with the Lisbon “Chill Out” free walking tour the day before. Still, this was a very good, if slightly scripted, introduction to the highlights of Belem. Unlike with the Lisbon “Chill Out” free walking tour, Belem is level, street surfaces are even and the route encompasses less than 2 kilometers so it is doable by almost anyone. Discover Walks is based out of Paris, where they offer a plethora of free walking tours (we enjoyed their Montmartre tour very much).

Free Alfama Walking Tour

Fahim was an excellent tour guide. There is so much to be learned about the beautiful neighborhood of Alfama. It was so good that we barely saw any time pass at all! We highly recommend taking this tour to enhance your stay in Lisbon.

Fabulous Fahim!

We’ve just finished a really lovely afternoon walking the Alfama area of Lisbon with knowledgeable Fahim. He was really good food and hugely informative. He shared loads of useful info for the rest of our weekend and we’d highly recommend it!

Free walking tour in Belem

The tour was great, and even though it was raining and there were only two of us on the tour Joao still made this a very interesting and informative experience. He gave his perspective on lots of current and past events which gave me a better appreciation for what I was seeing. Thanks!!
