Indeed, it is a site to see and browse. For us, it was a fog day, but it doesn't affect the way we feel about it.
We parked at the foot of the stairs, a few places by the road. But it's probably wiser to park in the downstairs parking lot from the funicular.
The staircase with its statues and chapels retracing the Way of the Cross is beautiful, and you don't feel tired 😊. The church upstairs is worth it too and don't forget to take a walk in the adjoining woods.
We were there on a Sunday, and it's a youth meeting place that runs up and down. Whereas their elders were doing this climb on their knees.
Note that a few kilometers by car there are 2 other shrines to see on a road that takes you back to Braga.

We visited this place as part of a tour. It is really beautiful the church itself is beautiful and the grounds and the view are wonderful. We lucked out and were driven to the top. Not sure I would want to walk up the hill and then down.

Enchanted place. We stayed in February with rain and fog. It was not the best time to visit however made it an enchanted place .. fairytale

We were visited this super impressive sanctuary. The most incredible is the absolutely astronomical number of stairs to access it from the downstairs parking lot.
All the small chapels are reconstructions of Jesus' ordeal up to the great Church with hotels around and even a super funicular.

Yes, a simple would recommend a visit. Fantastic grand staircase, park and history. Basilica depicts Jesus being crucified. Fountains, statues, garden, basilica, views all in one place!

This has been on my bucket list for many years, and I finally had the opportunity to visit, and I was not disappointed. Getting to the church is relatively easy and can easily be done as a day trip from Porto if you're not staying in Braga. While part of the experience is climbing the steps to the top, for those who are not able to, it is possible to take a funicular for 2 euros up to the top and 3 euros for a round trip. This is a definite must-see.

This place is truly spectacular!!! Not just the church itself, but the design of the outside stairs leading up to the church, and also the whole park itself (believe me, it's a big park) !!!
And because of the height of the church, the city of Braga lays out in front of your eyes...absolutely gorgeous!!!
And believe it or not...it's all free!
But my main tip to you is: go on a bright sunny day. So check the weather first before you go. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

In a country full of churches, Bom Jesus stands out as truly special—not just because of its stunning location but also thanks to its beautiful gardens, nearby hotels perfect for a drink, the surrounding park, and the incredible staircase leading up to the church. You can take the funicular up to the top where the churches for less than a couple euro one way. It is to the left of the stairway and read about the history. It is so beautiful. It doesn’t matter where you look. The views are great. Make sure you walk up behind the gardens as there is a huge park. It has man-made lake, a park for the kids, you can rent a little canoe, or you can eat in the restaurant if you’re hungry. Walk to the left of the church up there and you will see statues of Saints and three little round buildings. Make sure you look in each one. It’s like they are a diorama, honoring Jesus. I thought it was fascinating. You could easily spend three hours here. Make sure you walk down the stairs when you leave as there are statues along the way. It’s much easier walking down than walking up which is suggested the funicular going up. Look up the history of Bom Jesus and it will explain the stairway which to me was very interesting!
