Giannis (John) was very quick and understanding in communication although our flight from the States was late.. Very gracious. Stratis, our driver met us with a big smile and warm welcome when we finally arrived in Athens. He offered us the traditional chocolates/mints and shared with us his vast knowledge of the landmarks we passed into town. He spoke excellent English, was very accommodating and hilarious. We were fortunate enough to have Stratis as our driver back to the airport as well. Stratis used to own Rhapsody in Mykonos and knows a a great little piano bar there.but you'll have to ask for him then ask him for the story! Miss ya Stratis! I will call these folks everytime I visit Athens

We took a half day tour to Cape Sounion off the Nieuw Amsterdam from Piraeus on 4th May 2012. Stratos (our driver) was there to meet us ahead of time & we had a most pleasant & informative drive down the coast to the Temple of Poseidon. The Mercedes taxi was very clean & Stratos provided us with water & some of the local mints which were delicious. We had a lovely day & wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone as the price was very reasonable & much cheaper than anything from the cruise ship.

Reminiscing our days in Greece, the tour to Katakolon was the best experience of all. The driver’s service and the hospitality was beyond any expectations. I can’t imagine that anyone that travels with Athens Taxi Arvanitakis won’t have the best impression. For this reason I highly recommend to anyone that wants to travel to the beautiful country Greece, and especially to Katakolon, and If they want to have an immemorable experience at Ancient Olympia with wonderful touring and services, they should travel with John’s company. At my tour, the driver was very nice and kind. He recommended our itinerary and we didn’t want to change a thing. We were travelling in a group of 10 people in a luxurious, clean minibus. The scenery was beautiful and the atmosphere inside the minibus was the best anyone could have that we didn’t even realize when we had reached our destination. John had arranged for a tour guide to meet us there under our request, since it’s not included in the tour. Everyone was really kind to us and very hospitable. The driver under John’s directions, followed the itinerary to the last point and we even got to visit a winery as john had told us. It was a beautiful experience to see how wine is being made. We all tasted a fine bottle of wine, which was a treat from the driver. Then, he took us to a really good restaurant with excellent food and good prices. On our way back, we were all happy due to the good time we had and the people we met on this trip. Congratulations to John for his amazing planning of our tour and we thank him with all our heart for this unforgettable experience.

Excursion details: 15 passenger van with English speaking driver, refreshments on the van, transportation to Olympia, transportation to winery, transportation back to Katakolon
I am sure there are plenty of very good excursion companies in Greece, but from my experience with Athens-Taxi with John Arvanitakis, this is not one of them.
The whole day was ruined by what I can only describe as very unprofessional personnel, that are to the point of being dangerous.
Our excursion was to start at 8am, at the dock, but when we looked for our bus and driver, they were no where to be found. I asked one of the other tour companies drivers if they knew Athens-Taxi and they did and made a call and they arrived about 8:30. This would not be a big deal, but when it was a sign of bad things to follow.
We are a total of 13 cruisers that reserved a 15 passenger van with Athens-Taxi for 380eu. The rate given and stressed by John with Athens-Taxi was the rate was for the 15 passenger van, not per person. The driver and the "guide" were both very adamant that the tour was for 10, not 13 and became very upset. I tried to explain to them that the reservation was for 15 passengers, but they did not want to listen or did not understand English. While the driver drove us to Olympia he was making and receiving phone calls (I will let individuals decide for themselves the safety of your driver making calls while driving you) and by the tone of his voice, he was complaining that there were 13 people in his van not the 10 he expected. The "guide" was also making and receiving calls during the drive, and her voice was very vocal concerning whatever she was saying to whoever she was talking to. The reason I put quotation marks around the "guide" is what we got for a guide, was someone that read a script to us on the way to Olympia, in between phone calls. We did not have a guide after Katakolon.
We did not get to go to a winery which was part of the tour that we paid for and that we were all looking forward to since some in our group make thier own wine at home. We were told by George (Athens-Taxi Olympia representative) that the winery was closed due to it being a holiday, which we accepted at the time, however, when we got back on the ship, we talked to others that did the same tour and they were taken to another winery that was open. Their driver knew the scheduled winery was closed, but made arrangements for his passengers to visit another winery. If their driver was able to do this, why wasn't our driver (maybe because of his bad attitude?) or the Athens-Taxi representative George that met us in Olympia who told us that the winery was closed.
As for the trip back to Katakolon from Olympia, we were to have an English speaking driver or guide. The guide did not accompany us back to Katakolon but George told us that his driver spoke very good English and would be able to answer any questions we have. The driver did not speak English and John from Athens-Taxi confirmed this in his email response to me.
I have corresponded with John from Athens-Taxi several times and so have others on this excursion, trying to work out some kind of compensation/refund, but John has been unwilling to work with us even though he agrees that what we received was not what was promised and not up to Athens-Taxi standard.
There were no refreshments on the van.
If you are planning an excursion in Greece, in Katakolon or Olympia or anywhere else, I would highly recommend that you look to a more reputable company other than Athens-Taxi.

Our half day tour round Athens started when John picked us up from the port after getting off our cruise ship. His knowledge on which port our ship would come into was invaluable as he explained we would have to get the port shuttle bus to get to him.
He was on time, the most careful driver in the whole of Athens, very knowledgeable about everywhere he took us, very clean comfortable car and a VERY HOSPITABLE person.
He suggested the itinerary and asked if we wanted to change anything which we did not. He also asked if we need to stop for lunch & if so what type of place were we looking for. As it happened we were so engrossed with the sights that we skipped lunch and instead he took us to the most amazing pastry/ice cream parlour ever!!
Thank you so much for making us feel so welcome and showing us your beautiful home city. Many apologises for this late review. The Walker family.

Although reviews seem to be positive for John's excursions out of Athens, we and 11 other cruisers had a very unpleasant experience in Katakolon on our Olympia tour. Our driver was not on time and this of course made us all anxious. When he did arrive he did not speak English as we were promised and had a very bad attitude towards us, spending a good deal of time on the phone (probably with John in Athens). It appeared that there was a discrepancy as to the number of passengers. He expected 10, we were 13 as arranged for and the van held 15. Since we were paying a set fee of 380 euros, I don't understand the problem. Our driver brought a "guide" with him who read a prepared script of information about Olympia to us....very unsatisfactory to say the least. No refreshments as promised were offered to us and the topper to this was that we were told that we couldn't go to the Mercouri winery because it was closed due to a national holiday. Other cruisers using the same company were taken to another winery where their driver went out of his way to make arrangements for them. Our driver and "guide" were constantly on the phone arguing, we guess, about our excursion. We became concerned at times that our driver was not giving his full attention to the road. All in all we felt surrounded by hostility and were made to feel uncomfortable. Our port excursion was ruined by this unprofessional taxi service. If you are going to Katakolon try using one of the taxi companies that are local and not Athen-taxi.org.

I recently did a cruise that started in Istanbul, and stopped in Piraeus half way into the cruise before ending in Venice. I had arranged for my 21 year old niece to join me for the second half of the cruise, so she was flying into Athens airport and needed a transport from the airport to the ship. This was my niece's first trip abroad and I intended to make the trip from the ship to the airport to meet her arrival, however I was nervous about being able to use public transportation for my airport transfer due to all the transportation strike issues near the time of her arrival. John Arvanitakis was wonderful about keeping me well informed and assured me that they would guarantee to transport my niece. As it worked out, there was not strike on the day she arrived and I was able to meet her at the airport and ride with her in the car that John's company had waiting. The entire process was smooth and efficient, taking us directly back to the ship. The car was very comfortable and clean, and driver very courteous. I can highly recommend this company for any of your needs in Greece.

This service was very excellent to transfer fron cruise ship to Athens airport. Driver was waiting on time with our name, very friendly, knowledgable and spoke good English. Late model Mercedes was clean and comfortable. Cost about 1/3 of what the ship wanted to charge for transfer. Was also easy to arrange - we highly recommend!

Three friends and I had the profound pleasure to spend 5+ hours on a private taxi tour with Nicholas (Nikos?), an associate of John Arvanitakis & Athens Taxi. From the moment Nikos picked us up at the port in Katakolon for our private taxi to Olympia, we knew we were in for a treat. Nikos was born and raised (and still lives) in Olympia and he proudly shared information and history with us. He was able to converse easily in English, Italian, and French, too!
Nikos brought an "overlay" book on Olympia to show us how Olympia used to look and what the ruins look like today. He kindly encouraged us borrow his book while we toured the site, which added so much to our visit.
We had a thoroughly delightful and enriching day with Nikos! Many thanks, grazie mille, merci beaucoup!!
