Ce petit musée est assez négligé et c'est dommage. Il renferme le premier parlement grec avant son transfert à Syntagma. Les salles retracent essentiellement l'histoire de la Grèce à partir du dix-neuvième siècle et le construction d'un État moderne. L'exposition au premier étage était très intéressante.

Musée très complet centré sur l’Histoire grecque contemporaine

En bon passionné d’Histoire, je ne pouvais pas manquer cette visite. Et oui, il vaut mieux être un passionné pour apprécier. Le bâtiment est imposant et les collections sont très complètes. La période ottomane est rapidement vue pour arriver à la révolution de 1821, la suite du XIXème et la première moitié du XXème. De nombreux objets ponctuent la visite. Beaucoup d’explications (en grec et en anglais). Le clou de la visite est le premier parlement grec en fin de parcours, très belle pièce symbolique pour l’Histoire du pays. En ce moment, il y a également une exposition temporaire sur la guerre greco-turque de 1919-1922.
Seul bémol : des ruptures dans l’ordre chronologique qui nous font perdre le fil des événements par moment.

Wish there was more about the recent modern history of Greece but otherwise I thought it was interesting and fascinating to walk around. The lady at the front desk was pretty rude she was more interested in finishing her chat on the phone than actually do her job so I have given it a lower score - good museum but not great customer service.

Συναρπαστικό μάθημα ιστορίας!

Στο όμορφο κτήριο της Παλιάς Βουλής, στην οδό Σταδίου, στεγάζεται το εξαιρετικού ενδιαφέροντος Εθνικό Ιστορικό Μουσείο. Σηαμαντικά εκθέματα που διατρέχουν, κυρίως, την πιο σύγχρονη ελληνική ιστορία. Ίσως ο τρόπος έκθεσής τους να μην είναι πάντα ο πιο οργανωμένος και ενδεδειγμένος, αυτό όμως δε μοιάζει να αφαιρεί τίποτε από τη συγκίνηση και τον πλούτο πληροφοριών που προσφέρουν απλόχερα στο φιλομαθή επισκέπτη. Ιδίως η έκθεση αφιέρωμα στα 200 χρόνια από την ελληνική επανάσταση στον 1ο όροφο του κτηρίου, παρουσιάζει εξαιρετικό ενδιαφέρον και οι πληροφορίες που συνοδεύουν εκθέματα, χάρτες και σχεδιαγράματα συγκροτούν ένα συναρπαστικό μάθημα σύγχρονης ελληνικής ιστορίας. Αφιερώστε τον απαιτούμενο χρόνο για να το απολαύσετε, εσείς και τα παιδιά σας!

Set in a nice building that was the old parliament, there is information about the history of modern greece- mainly about the war of independence in the 1830s that was interesting.

A suitable Athens culture start

Located in the old parliament building.

This museum can be a good beginning of discovering cultural Athens.

Start left side of entrance reception and make a round along the ground floor. Continue by taking stairs to the first floor.

There is no elevator, but there is a stair seat lift for anyone that has problems with stairs. Technique looks a bit aged though. But ground floor is sufficient for a first feel of Greece.

Restrooms are located in the basement. Walk stairs down and pass the old archives, a bit of a labyrinth until you finally arrive.

Very service minded and helpful personnel.

Free entrance on Sundays.

You may continue your first day of impressions by a walk to Syntagma square for looking at the new Parliament, behind which one finds the national gardens, worth a stroll, adds a bit of fresh air but no real culture. Follow up with a local meal and you have a nice, and not overloaded first Athens day. Having an ouzo at a terrace and watching people is also part of living the culture.

Really interesting museum

Really interesting museum in the heart of Athens. I found the exhibition on the Greek War of Independence fascinating. Includes the old Parliament chamber that has seen significant moments in Greek history.

Very good museum, it has more of the modern history (~1500-1930’s) and very cool to see and old stuff is cool and the new stuff also. The best things were the paintings and weapons. The parliament was beautiful, so were the outfits. Both Greek and Ottoman representation with the flags, weapons, and battles.
