We caught the boat after tramping the Matemateonga track, which took us up to the bridge, per whanganui river adventures. This was well worth it, with such beautiful scenery. Ken gave us excellent history about the place, and a cup of tea as well! Go on a sunny day if possible, dress warmly for the boat, and wear good walking shoes.

We took the Stay and Play option with a jet boat ride up to the Mangapurua Landing, 40 minute walk into the Bridge to Nowhere, and jet boat back the Bridge to Nowhere Lodge for the night. Surprised how many people were canoeing along the way. The jet boat driver was both friendly and knowledgeable and the views along the way were great. family. At the lodge the staff were all very friendly and service was great. Dinner that night was excellent and we enjoyed the quiet peaceful setting. A good breakfast next morning and jet boat back to Pipiriki. A great experience and highly recommended as a way to see a part of New Zealand that is otherwise inaccessible.

We canoed in with a self hire from Owhango Adventures and this was a highlight to see. Also a good excuse to use our legs after a long days paddle previously.
The landing is a bit of a rock face with several places to tie up your boats but beware that it gets really busy so sometimes you have to transverse other boats to get to dry land or vice versa. Also note that jet boats and other larger craft use the small slip face to dock so that adds to the fun.
The walk to the Bridge to Nowhere takes about 35 minutes and there are two long drops available to use should you require the toilet.
The walk is slightly uphill and through native bush with great views over the river and bridges river. It is also a cycle path if you wanted to cycle it from the other end.
There are huge eels to be seen if you look down over the right side of the bridge to the water and stunning views. There is also a good write up regarding the constitution and usage of the bridge as well as a few picnic tables to relax on before you return.

This trip really is one that should be on every kiwi's bucket list as well as that of our overseas tourist's. We did the jetboat up from Pipiriki, hiked to the Bridge to Nowhere (a reasonable 30-40 min walk up from the river landing), and jetboated back, stopping at the Lodge & again to drop off those wanting to kayak part of the way back. Harley our guide & jetboat driver admitted to absolutely loving his job and it showed, he was passionate, safe, fun and knowledgeable and really made sure everyone had a great day out. Learnt heaps about the area's history and was impressed by it's beauty, will definately be back, very keen to mountainbike in with my hubby & stay at the Lodge a night, as I'm sure he will love it as much as I did. Highly recommend this company

We took the jet boat ride, but saw many people canoeing along the way. The people were both friendly and knowledgeable and the views along the way were amazing, at times breath taking. I am headed back at some point in the future to canoe down with my family. At the lodge we were treated to a bang up meal in quiet peaceful surroundings, would I do it again, defiantly.

Great trip from go to whoa, Joe and his team live up the river and their passion shines through, they know the Whanganui river in all its moods and they showcase the river beautifully.
The history of the bridge typifies the courage and tenacity of the Kiwi spirit, it is well worth the walk up. Its a reasonably good track with a couple of DoC toilets along the way for those in need, be sure to stop along the way as there are some fantastic views of virgin native bush and the river below.
The Luncheon prepared by Mandy and co was fantastic, every one is so friendly and happy to share tales of a very special lifestyle.
Highly recommend it.

This was a really amazing day. So much history and so much commitment from the WW1 returned servicemen who took up the block so develop. After having been there you can appreciate why it was all so hard and without the government backing that was promised the environment took all the development work back.

Perfect family trip up the beautiful Wanganui river, to the amazing historical bridge to nowhere, our Guide was Joe, whom everyone seemed to know up the river, stopping along the way telling us some stories and guiding the canoes safely through the river. Bug the dog was a highlight and truly a testament to a dog is a man best friend!! Absolutely loved our day. Just amazing how busy that part of the country is, just neat seeing humans taking in the scenery and enjoying the outdoors!! A busy man living the dream!!, absolutely recommended

What an awesome family and friends adventure. Fantastic bike ride (muddy so be prepared), cool jet boat ride and we had a wonderful stay in the lodge. Super friendly, food was awesome and lovely hot showers. Canoe paddle the next day was fun. Thanks Joe and your team for organising the nights in the camp ground either side of our trip, the transfers and ohh yes the hot chips at the camp ground were simply the best after our long paddle out.

Which is the easy and closest route from whanganui BY ROAD to Bridge to Nowhere. How far do we need to walk a I have few elders travelling with me . thanks

The easiest way is up the river road from Wanganui. The walk takes approx 40 minutes each way and is classed as easy. It is not a race , so time is not a major issue. Ounce at the bridge we stop for lunch. Tea and coffee supplied

Hi There
From Wanganui you go north out of town on SH4 the Paraparas. At Raetihi township turn left down the main street and carry on for about 30 minutes. When you get to Pipiriki carry on through the village to the cross roads and turn right. Our base is pretty much right in front of you! Travel time about 1 hour 40min.
