Had a bit of a disappointing experience all in all. After reading all the great reviews and lefteris being recommended by another website I decided to book a full day tour as a surprise for my husbands 70th birthday that he would be celebrating while we were on holiday. We had trouble with emails not getting through so finally got confirmation from lefteris through WhatsApp.
We should have been picked up at 9am but no one showed so rang up to check and they couldn't find my booking! But the man I spoke to said he would send a driver and still have our day out, fair enough. Within 10 minutes a driver came and off we went, we told him where we wanted to go and basically he took us the 3 places we asked for and left us there for as long as we wanted, he said "no rush" and we were paying him by the hour so he was happy. But by the time we got to our last destination he told us we only had half an hour because he had to do an airport run! We wasn't given any information about the places we visited so it wasn't a "guided tour" we had basically hired a taxi driver for the day, there was no time allowed for lunch and the 7 hour trip I had booked was squeezed into 5 hours, on the plus side it saved me €80.

We booked 2 day-long tours with Lefteris through Taxiservices-Crete tours. One day he gave us a tour along with our transfer from Heraklion to Chania. Another day we had a tour from Chania to Elfonsi Beach. He also picked us up from the Heraklion airport, provided transport to Knossos (by his lovely daughter), and arranged a taxi to the Chania airport when we left Crete. We had great communication with Leftaris prior to our trip and the entire time we were with him. We learned so much about the history, people, and customs of Crete from Leftaris – we loved our time with him! He also recommended fabulous places for dinner. I was traveling with my 16 year old grandson who now quotes Lefty and says Crete is his favorite place and he intends to go back.
On our transfer from Heraklion to Chania: Lefteris drove us around part of Heraklion to see the huge defensive wall built by the Venetians who were afraid of invasions by the Turks. As we drove to a viewpoint to look over all of Heraklion where we saw the mountain that is supposed to look like the head of sleeping Zeus (Mount Juktas ) just beyond Heraklion.
Lefty stopped a couple of times and picked herbs and asked us to identify them - wild oregano, orange blossom, thyme, etc. He talked about how they eat fresh food here and have a long life expectancy. We stopped at a roadside cafe and had coffee, OJ, and the local pastry made just for Easter (it was sort of a sweet cheese in a pastry shell and very good).
As he drove, Lefteris told us about all the invasions of Crete, including the 300 year Ottoman occupation and World War II with the German invasion and occupation. He told us about the city of Rethymno, located between Heraklion and Chania. From a hill overlooking the city we could see the Venetian-era citadel, the Fortezza of Rethymno, one of the best-preserved castles in Crete. The area is full of beautiful beaches, archaeological sites, Byzantine churches, quaint villages and cosmopolitan resorts. Today's old town was almost entirely built by the Republic of Venice and has an elegant Venetian style of architecture. It is one of the best-preserved old towns in Crete. It has a very long beach bordered by hotels/condos. We had an hour of free time in Rethymno and enjoyed walking around the old town.
We continued on the coastal road to Georgioupoll to see the very long beach (6 miles long – locals claim it is the longest beach in Crete) and the small Agios Nikolaos Church built on a tiny islet in the sea.
We stopped at the Kanakis olive mill that has an ancient olive tree, one thousand years old. We had a tour of the machines they use to produce olive oil and then olive oil and raki tastings – delicious!!
We made one last stop before reaching Chania. - At a small producer of sheep milk products - we had yogurt with honey, delicious cheese, and also some ice cream, all made with sheep's milk and also very good. We really enjoyed our time on this transfer/tour.
To Elfonsi Beach: We spent the entire day with Lefty who drove from Chania on the north of Crete to Elfonsi Beach on the drier and warmer south side of. The road across the mountains was quite rugged in places. We stopped to see the famous 3,000 year old olive tree of Vouves, then and headed up into the rugged mountains towards Topolia Gorge. We stopped at Tavern Spiliaraki topolia in a tiny village where we had a wonderful fresh squeezed orange juice. Shortly after that we came to the Topolia Gorge and the single lane unlit tunnel known as Topolia Tunnel. The road across the mountains and through the gorge had many. many curves. We passed several flocks of goats and sheep.
As we arrived at Elafonisi Beach, Leteris parked close to the beach and let us enjoy time there. The water was intensely turquoise blue and the bay was sheltered by a small island that created an area with no waves where you could walk to the island when the tide is out. It is famous for having pink sand, but it didn’t look pink at the time we were there but it was a special place – just stunning!!
Lefteris then drove us to the Monastery of Chryssoskalitissa, built on rocks over 100 feet above the Mediterranean Sea. We climbed up the 90 steps to the Monestary and went to the museum with holy icons then through a low doorway into the Folklore museum. From the Monastery, there was an incredible view of the intensely blue/turquoise bay below. Lefty then took us to have a late lunch at his favorite beach - Sfinari Beach, out-of-the way for tourists and where only locals go. We passed by several flocks of sheep on the narrow road on the side of steep mountains that jutted into the intensely turquoise sea. We had a fabulous seafood lunch at the Thalami Fish Tavern restaurant with tables shaded by trees right on the beach. We continued through the rugged mountains on our way back to Chania. SW Crete is made up of rugged mountains and cliffs and an intensely turquoise blue sea – gorgeous!!! Review on Trust Pilot, Title; Fabulous transfers and tours on Crete with a local!

Lefteris was outstanding! I am short of words when it comes to compliments. He was kind, attentive, responsible, caring, funny and knowledgeable. It was a tremendous pleasure to have him drive us to several destinations. He went above and beyond in order to help us have the best possible time. He took care of every detail in anticipation, so everything would be perfect for us!

We traveled to creye as a cruise stop with our group of 8. Our 4 kids ranged in age from 3 to 16. We were picked up on time from the arrival terminal in the beautiful mini bus and welcomed with bottled waters and warm conversation. Our driver Michaelis and our guide Lena (not sure about spellings) made sure we were all comfortable and safe. On our way to Zeus Cave, we stopped at a beautiful monastery that was actively having mass in traditional geek orthodox. We were able to witness the mass actively going on. It was like history come to life here. We also stopped at the old windmills for some great pics and to see the old mills. The trek to Zeus cave was fun despite the incline. The 14 yo and 69 yo in our group did opt to take the donkeys to the top while the rest of us walked. Michaelis and lena were so patient with us as we sampled local olive oils at the base of the cave and made our selections as well as enjoyed fresh fruit. We were able to drive through local villages and then enjoy a delicious Cretan meal. We all 8 had a fabulous day and are so grateful for our time spent here! Special thanks to our guide and driver who were so patient with us, taught us so much, and showed us many beautiful things in Crete. We highly recommend them!

Great way to spend my birthday…! Lefteris is absolutely the Best Guide - he made sure that I had a wonderful experience visiting Crete..! My Mom fractured her ankle 2 days before our Crete stop and unable to join us, so it was Lefteris who made sure my visit was memorable..!
Fabulous sites, history, company and tastes of Crete.
1. One of the most interesting archaeological sites in western Crete, Aptera was inhabited since Minoan times. Aptera was destroyed in the great earthquake of 365 AD and only sparsely inhabited afterwards but a monastery dedicated to St. John the Theologian remained amidst the ruins.
2. Turkish fort overlooking the entrance to the port of Crete. Experts believe that the Minoan Palace of Kydonia lies underneath the present city of Chania, a very densely populated area that cannot be excavated. Some parts of the ruins came indeed to light after the Nazi air raids.
3. Little known by foreign tourists the graves of Venizelos, located in a small park on a hill overlooking Chania are very much worth a visit, if only for the superb view that you get.
The spot on the hill of Prophitis Ilias (after the name of the 15th century church located there) is the resting place of one of the most illustrious Greek (and Cretan!) stateman, Eleftherios Venizelos and of his son Sophoklis.
4. Saw Zorbo the Greek beach - Iguana Beach in Agioi Apostoli is located three kilometers west of the city of Chania. It is situated a few meters off the road from Chania to Platanias – and next to the Golden Beach. It is a beautiful beach, very popular for both locals and foreign visitors due to its close proximity to the town of Chania, the golden sand and the crystal clear waters. In the area of Agioi Apostoli, there is also a large number of restaurants, rooms for rent and newly built hotels for your accommodation.
5. kantalon olive factory- enjoyed the best tasting- olive oil, salt and squeeze of lemon with bread. All grown or made by the Kantalon family. To include an amazing lemon cello.
Also experienced lots of the local flavors on the journey. From local pastries, cheese, yogurt with honey, and local fruits.
Overall, exceptional day spent with Lefty! A huge Thank You for a wonderful day. Highly Recommend…!!!

Lefteris is the BEST! Do yourselves a favor and, if you are visiting Crete, book a tour with him (and his family). His family-owned business provides tailored, customized experiences for your group. They have options for groups of various sizes in clean, comfortable vehicles, including my family of 8 who visited Crete during a cruise.
The best part about touring with Lefteris was the fact we got insider access to incredible local spots we wouldn't have been able to see without him - including a local shepherd's Greek yogurt shop and a tour/demo of a family-run olive oil producer.
Lefteris is both extremely knowledgeable about Crete's history and culture, and also incredibly personable, kind, engaging, and humorous. We weren't sure what to expect during our day in Crete, and Lefteris delivered an experience that none of us will soon forget! 10/10 recommend Lefteris and his family for an amazing, authentic experience of Crete!

My family and I booked a private tour with Lefteris on the day we were visiting Crete during a cruise - and we are SO glad we did! Lefteris was a quick and pleasant communicator leading up to the tour, and was there waiting for us at the port where our boat was docked that morning. He tailored the tour to fit our wants/needs, taking us to must-see sites and monuments, and also hidden gems that we likely would not have seen without him (like the local shepherd's Greek yogurt and honey stand and a family-run olive oil press - both amazing!!). Lefteris's Mercedes mini bus was perfect for the 8 of us - spacious, comfortable, and clean. Lefteris is extremely knowledegable about Crete's history, culture, and way of life, and we felt like we had gotten the best taste of the island because of him. He is personable, charismatic, engaging, and organized, and has a good sense of humor - everything you could want in a tour guide! HIGHLY recommend booking Lefteris for your next visit to Crete; you will not be disappointed. Our day with him was the highlight of our entire trip!

We had a great tour guide, Andreas. He took us to monuments, a very interesting walk through the city, a monastery, a fort and an olive oil factory. He told us we were having a "light lunch" (included in the tour price) and they served so much food we could have eaten for the rest of the week, but it was very good.

How can I contact you for a 1/2 day tour on August 22?

I am having trouble contacting Leftheris. Does anyone have an email address for him? I filled out a form that I believe went to Matt Barrett, but nothing has come of it. Thank you.

Lefty does get back to you. He often takes the bigger tours and I found that I resent the email to get his attention. We wanted a half day tour therefore we went with his daughter Roula...she is good too.

Hi Lefteris, Would you be able to provide a tour for 6 people in October 7, 2019? We'll arrive at Heraklion on the Celebrity Infinity at 7 AM departing at 6 PM. None of us have visited Crete before. I'm half Greek and have read books on Greece's contemporary history. I'm our group organizer so a quote with destination and price would be greatly appreciated.
