Toller Ausblick, die Festung st aber kaum noch zu erkennen. Trotzdem ist es den Aufstieg (schon ein leicht anstengend, vor allem wenn´s heiß ist) wert.

Stunning place, very Greek feel!

Very pretty walk from the kiosk up to the ruins. It took 10-15 minutes and is not too hard - it was hot but not roasting though. Stunning views from the top, absolutely worth it. I imagine the parking would be very busy in the summer so maybe go early or later.

Don’t miss this in your trip to Corfu

I did this path last September 2022 when temperatures were good. I am 70 years old and managed it though parts are tricky underfoot and steep. It is easy to Google “Lears Path” and see directions with photos. There are two ways to do this. 1. The whole walk from the village of Paleokastritsa, 90 minutes, up Lear’s Path to Lakones village and then along the main road, turning left through Krini and downhill to the car park where one then has to walk up the steep steps to the castle. I don’t like heights and that climb was a test. Views from the top amazing but dizzying for me. 2. Drive from Paleokastritsa up the newer road to Krini and down the hill to the car park ( you can approach Krini from the other side from Makrades if you are driving from the north). Lear’s path from Paleo is for the main part large stones underfoot which can turn an ankle so do wear good footwear. Other travellers report scorpions or the occasional snake so another reason for good footwear. From Lakones to Krini there is not much in the way of a roadside footpath so be wary of traffic. Recommended? Absolutely. On the road from Lakones to Angelokastro you get amazing views looking south and you can even see the fortress in Corfu Town. As you walk you will catch glimpses of Angelokastro through the trees, just whetting the appetite to finish the walk. There are a few restaurants and cafes on the route from Lakones but take water for the initial walk from Paleo. For the return, care on Lears Path as the stones can be slippy even when dry and the steepness can make it tough on the legs. Alternatively, just follow the new road down from Lakones to Paleo, a longer walk but gentler on the legs. Great walk. I loved it. Green coach from Corfu Town or Gouvia to Paleo is cheap and takes 45 mins/35 mins.

A reward when you reach the top!

Steeped in history, and what a rewarding view at the top!

The only thing I’d mention is that some of the ascent is more of a scramble than a walk, and obviously there are no handrails…! I’d prefer it this way personally- it’s not been ruined at all.

However, if you are a little unsteady on your feet or uneasy with heights, then you may wish to consider whether you wish to visit…!

What a view !

There is a small car park, but it was possible to park on the road nearby. It is about a 15 min climb up the path to the castle, but was nowhere near as bad as it looked from the car park. The view of the coast overlooking Paleokastrica was fantastic. The drive is a bit long & windy, but well worth it. Nearby restaurant & toilets.

Steps to the top are not steap and the ruins are quite easy to get to. the views are amazing.

Old fort with great view

After a climb up the stairs you have a great view of Paleokastritsa. There isn’t much left of the old fort. Parking can be tricky as there aren’t many parking spaces. Small shop with traditional Greek products and a restaurant with lovely view.
