I hadnt skied for 20 years and was a bit apprehensive. However from the rental shop to the lift passes, the uplift, the pistes and the great cafes it was brilliant. Excellent quaility skis and boots. The t bar tows, which I remembered from at home could take the legs from under you, were smooth and easy. Sadly it was too windy for the gondola so can’t comment. Even better no massive queues and no jostling for places! Beautifully groomed pistes and excellent cafes for a much needed hot chocolate and a “Munkii”. (Wrong spelling but a delicious enormous doughring). Highly recommend, great for families. We were with a Finnish family who were introducing their tinies to downhill skiing and it was perfect.

Super domaine skiable. Dispose de plusieurs pistes. La neige est de très bonne qualité ! Le panorama quand la vue est dégagé est super. Par contre, les couleurs des pistes ne correspondent pas vraiment aux pistes françaises. Les pistes noires en Finlande sont plutôt l’équivalent des pistes rouges en France. Sinon top !

Having previously had great skiing experiences at a nearby resort, this year we decided to give Yllas a try. Generally to skiing is great – with good snow conditions, well prepared runs and lots of opportunity for adventuring off-piste. The piste marking was okay, but with some basic issues – the poles and signs were not colour coordinated with the grading, and the numbering in the two skiing areas both started at 1 (potentially confusing when you at the top where they join up). Whilst we were there the top was covered in cloud 3 days out of 4 – I don’t know how typical this is?
We stayed on the Saaga side and would consider this to be the better of the two areas with more shelter and variety of runs. Whilst this is a good ski area for family’s with runs that are accessible to most and never crowded, I couldn't recommend it because there are better alternatives.

The slopes are well maintained, safe, broad and I’d say this skiing was the best I have had in Finland during my 25 years of skiing and the kids liked it, too. When you go during late March-April it is not too cold either, and you can continue skiing until late in the evening - the sun sets at 9 pm and the slopes close at 7 pm!

Dåligt hotell med riktigt dålig mat samt en hotell ansvarig som inte gör sitt jobb!
Kommer aldrig mer att sätta min fot på detta ställe med hutlösa priser, rummen och själva hotellet är sannerligen i behov av en total renovering.Mitt tips åk till Sälen istället.

Visited Lapland (yllas) with my wife and two children aged 9 and 4 . From the very start the trip was stress free . From being dropped at your cabin ,attending welcome meeting and booking trips ,you always knew what you was doing .(Inghams reps are great)
We had the Santa Grotto meet which is absolutely amazing for the kids . Very magical .
You can bake biscuits ,sledging , meet reindeer .Its a great day out
We also enjoyed the snowmobile trip , you get to see remote parts of the area in the middle of nowhere and stop off at a cabin for berry juice and biscuits. The kids ride in a big sledge pulled by one of the guides which had my wife in a panic but they was fine ,the guide would always come and let us know they was ok when we would stop for others to catch up. Our youngest actually was fast asleep wrapped in fur blankets when we stopped for drinks.
Probably the best trip was the reindeer and husky safari. You get to go mushing ( I think that's correct name) with the dogs which is awesome and learn about their way of life . You have free reign of the grounds to meet all the dogs.
You go on a reindeer ride through the woods which is fun
There is loads more things to enjoy here but the kids just loved the freedom and the snow and sledding. But for me it was how picturesque it was and peaceful and the locals are great .
Definitely have to go once .

Lapin reissulla käytiin katsomassa myös Ylläksellä miten siellä valmistaudutaan tulevaan talveen. Hiljaista vielä oli tähän aikaan vuodesta.

Brilliant place to visit, plenty to do without skiing....couldn't have asked for better weather and got to see the northern lights 4 times ....would recommend to everybody

Ylläs oli kova juttu joskus 90-luvulla. Sinne keskuksen kehittäminen on sitten jäänytkin. Hissitekniikkaan ei ole panostettu vuosikymmeniin ja kaikki on tuuliherkän Gondolin varassa. Viikolla 1 olimme laskemassa vertailukelpoisissa olosuhteissa Levillä ja Ylläksellä. Ylläksellä ankkurihissit 90-luvulta, kourallinen rinteitä valaistu ja nekin olivat järkyttävän jäisiä ja huonossa kunnossa, vaikka luonnonlunta pitäisi olla 75cm. Keskuksen yhdysrinteet ovat valaisemattomia ja suljettuja siten, ettei puolelta toiselle pääse. Skibussi kulkee 45 minuutin välein, eikä illalla lainkaan. Gondoli suljetaan tuulen vuoksi yleensä vasta sen jälkeen, kun ihmisille on saatu päivän hissiliput myytyä, eikä sitä avata uudelleen, vaikka tuuli tyyntyisi. Samaan aikaan Levillä kaikki rinteet upeassa kunnossa, valaistu ja keskuksessa on useita lämmitettyjä tuolihissejä. Ei Yllästä voi mitenkään suositella tässä kunnossa. Keskus kuppaa hissilipuista järkyttävää ylihintaa, vaikka mitään investointeja ei ole tehty. Lyhyen ajomatkan päässä sijaitsee ylivertainen hiihtokeskus, joten syitä laskea Ylläksellä ei ole.

So, we are off to Yllas on Sunday 2nd Feb. I have an 8 year old girl and a 10 year old boy. I am now so worried about the temperature in Yllas. We have alot of clothing including base layers, fleeces etc. Does anyone recommend a very good and warm make of gloves/ mittens for children. Does anyone in the UK have any experience of the weather in Feb in Yllas? I would be very happy to have any advice. Thank you.

Hi we've just come back from Yllas Ski and loved it! We went on a package deal with Inghams but wondered if there was s way we could get there by booking independently? I can't seem to find any flights from the UK direct to Kittilla. Has anyone else done this? Thanks

Yes, we have booked flights with Finnair from Gatwick to Kitilla in December this year. It's a first for us, booked a lodge independently through Trip Advisor. We just need to book some excursions...can you recommend any? We are going with our 3 daughters aged 6, 12 and 15.
We booked our flights in January this year and got a great price. :-)

We're a family of 2 parents and 2 12yo's planning a few days in Yllas mid-week, 3rd week of January in order to see the Northern Lights, ski and do some husky and reindeer sledding.but have a few questions:
1. Can we expect most of the runs and lifts to be open then?
2. We've skied a few times before and are able to cope with green or easy blues (ie, broad and not too steep) but want long slopes (so often the easy slopes are for first time beginners and so short they're not worth skiing). Are there some longer easy slopes at Yllas?
3. I noted the comments about how hard it is to get to the supermarket from the hotel near the base lifts. Are there any apartments offering easy walk to both supermarket and base lifts? Or would you recommend just booking a hotel - do any have family suites for 4? Any recommendations which are reasonable cost?
4. How easy is it to get to the resort from the airport - which I gather has direct flights from England?

Hi,
Yes most of the runs will be open. The slopes are very long and wide so you should not be disappointed. The supermarket is about 20 mins away from Ylläs sport resort but there is the ski bus which can take you there and back but you would have to check timings. You can fly from Gatwick to Kittila airport which is 30 mins away from resort. Ylläs express run buses during the day to resort from airport but a transfer can be arranged if arriving late at night. Cheaper than a taxi. Sport Resort and surrounding chalets are ideal for access to slopes. There is also a shop which does tours etc.
