Paikka joka laittaa ajattelemaan. Vaikuttava, hieman jopa pelottava muistomerkki sodan hulluudesta. Jos jossain kummittelee, niin se on oltava tässä paikassa. Upea luonto ympärillä jopa lumipuvussaan.

Yes we have all heard about the Second World War but this memorial is to a part that at least I wasn't familiar with. The dealings between Finland, Germany and Russia are the backdrop to the existence of this memorial/cemetery and an important part of the recent history of the area.

Beautiful and interesting place to visit, walking distance (800 meters) from parking place. Walk along the beautiful Finnish forest path is nice and calming experience. The impressive building is located by a beautiful lake.

Forse un pò strano per noi capire il significato di questo luogo ma è necessario conoscere la storia finlandese per capire meglio.
il luogo di per se è molto particolare in quanto immerso in un bosco; assolutamente necessario dopo la visita addentrarsi grazie ai vari sentieri e scoprire così luogo fantastici che solo in questa parte del mondo potete trovare...e poi un pò di avventura non guasta mai..

The area was very nice and the walk to the cemetery was relaxing, but the actual site which is a dark building was really dark and grey, which I suppose is the standard for German cemetery. The forest and lake and surrounding area is more of the attraction! They have a nice beach area right next to the cemetery and it has a smoke sauna and wood hut with fire pit and toilets. The large amount of graves in one small place is very saddening to see.

Vaatii paikallistuntemusta tai oppaan sekä auton tämän paikan löytämiseen, mutta ainutlaatuisuutensa takia kannattaa käydä. Mielestäni aika kalsea, mutta toista vastaavaa ei taida olla.

As we have traveled around Europe, we have taken the opportunity to visit as many military cemetery's as we can. We have visited American, Canadian, British, and German cemetery's and always come away with a sadness that so many perished.
This cemetery is located at the end of a road that has a parking lot for visitors. After leaving the lot, it is about a 10 minute walk to the cemetery. What struck us about this cemetery was the remoteness and what we perceived was it's isolation.
The walk is on flat ground and not at all strenuous.

During the last decades plenty of German tourists visited the Norvajärvi cemetery for the German war dead of the Second World War. Today, according to the guestbook, the visitors are Finnish and Swedish. It seems that the place is being forgotten by the relatives of these 2500 fallen soldiers.
The memorial place is surrounded by the beautiful nature, forest and a lake. It is worth walking some 500 hundred meters from the parking zone and hope that the peace will last forever.

We had couple of hours at our hands while waiting a train at Rovaniemi. Instead of the usual sightseeing we decided to try something different and this was totally worth it.
It takes about 30min drive from Rovaniemi centrum to reach the parking lot followed by 10min walk down the forest path. We had a 4-year-old with us and the walk was suitable for him. He was mostly focused on the blueberries by the path!
The memorial site itself is strikingly quiet. It's dark and cold inside the building and it's at the same time very beautiful and distressing place.
After one year I still remember the exact feelings I went through when visiting the memorial site.
