Incredible experience - so much history - amazing to stand where such an important battle of WW2 was planned. I know there’s a lot to see in Valetta, but these rooms and the tunnels and the war museum (in 3 cities) as well as the saluting battery experience are truly worth your time. Buying the combo tickets allows access to all these. The guides all do a wonderful job and these exhibits deserve your attention- lest we forget the brutality of war.

Let me start by saying how amazing Mike's English-speaking tour was. He shared so much great information and answered everyone's questions. However, even without a guided tour, there is so much information available on TV screens and in the displays. Definitely worth a visit, especially on a grey day, but even on a hot sunny day it's a great place to chill and cool down and learn about the amazing history.

I highly recommend doing the guided tour and visiting these war rooms when in Malta. They are a must, to help you understand the vital part that Malta played in WW2.
We had a terrific guide who was very knowledgeable. The tour takes about 45~60 minutes to complete.

Although we are maltese and we live in Malta, it was a very nice experience. Learning about our country's history was amazing. Our tour leader was very knowledgeable and it felt we were part of the story of Malta in the war time.

We have just finished an incredible tour of the Lascaris war rooms we joined the 14:30 tour and finished in perfect timing to then see the 16:00 firing of the cannons. The tour guide Trevor was incredibly knowledgeable and clearly very proud to work there he was so engaging and allowed the group to ask him questions. We will definitely be recommending this to those who are visiting Valletta, big thank you to Trevor and the team!

Lascaris war rooms, in the first place, when I saw them on the web, seemed that it was an not worthy museum to go for a such price. Nevertheless, because of my interest in WW2, me and my parents went to see it. We got lucky, actually, because after our arrival, there was a tour in English to begin in 5 minutes. A guide named Trevor took us and thanks to him, the experience was fascinating. His story was fluent and clear. Information was structured so that even my mom, even though she doesn't know anything about first half of the 20th century, or WW2 in particular, could understand much of the information. Nonetheless, I would highly reccomend to know at least basics on WW2 personas like Mussolini, Churchil, etc. Also WW2 progress and just those fundamentals of WW2, so that the information and experience would be maximized. When he finished, I still decided to walk around the museum ( in tour, we have not walked through most of parts, but he certainly talked about all of them ), just to see more of what Trevor was talking about. It was interesting for me, but doubtfully it would be interesting for kids or people who are not interested in history. There is a lot of good information there, and I mean A LOT, but it can get boring as you are going through there. In my opinion, if you can, go there at a time when a guide is taking place there and can tell you more about. Then you can decide on your own, whether you wanna go there explore everything, and if yes, how much time you wanna spend exploring those rooms and informative stands. Skipping through them is also better than just not going to look around in there. Peace, and thanks to Trevor again !
P.S. Sorry, that I have not took photos. I hadn't had time, because those stands had took me in :p. Nevertheless, I am certain, that you can find some on the internet :)

This was a fantastic experience and very well done. Our tour guide, Mike, was very knowledgeable and entertaining. If you love history you will love this exhibit. The museum is very thorough!! You will know everything there is to know about Operation Husky and the defense of Malta!!

Underground complex used in WW2 and later by NATO. We had a great tour by ex Armed Services Mike. He gave a very informative talk especially on the map rooms.

Hi, They form part of the same complex. The War HQ Tunnels were used between 1940 and early 1943 during eth Air Battle for Malta and the Lascaris War Rooms replaced in May 1943 in time for the launching from them of Operation Husky - the Allied invasion of Sicily when they served as General Eisenhower's Head Quarters. They are two very large underground complexes hence being separated into two distinct visits with separate tickets. the whole of them measures an area of 38,000 square meters of tunnelling. We recommend doing them both either on the same day or on different days. Both went on in use until 1977.

Do all the war rooms require one to go through narrow tunnels?
If one suffers from claustrophobia, is there much else to see at Lascaris War rooms?

I didn't find that the tunnels were claustrophobic, even though I have experienced claustrophobia in small, confined spaces (for example, the Cuu Chi Tunnels near Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam).

Start the tour from Upper Barakka and you will be taken to the War Rooms as part of the tour. Upper Barakka is close to Castille, the prime minister's office.

I won’t have much time in Valletta (visiting on 1 March) and I’m very keen to get on one of these tours. Does anyone know at what times of day the guided tours run? Also, how long do they last and is the guided tour included in the admission process or is it extra?

Guided tour is included in the price and takes under an hour. Think they are every hour on the hour
