This is the place to travel between Germany and Luxembourg without any border control. Alte Sauerbrucke is a stone bridge connecting the two countries dating back to the Roman ages. Passing through the former customs office, the bridge crosses the Sure and leads to the German town of Echternacherbruck. The view along the way is the peaceful pastoral landscape. Well worth the time to explore when near Echternach.

Dit is de oude brug over de Sûre naar Echternacherbrück, aan de andere kant van de grens. Er stond een paar jaar geleden nog een bordje "B.R.D." Misschien staat dat er nog steeds :-)

It is an old bridge over the "Sauer" river, connecting Echternach ( Luxemburg ) and Echternacherbrück ( Germany ) and in the middle of the bridge there is a statue of Johannes Bertels. The small yellow building at the beginning of the bridge was used to be the customs office. This building is a UNESCO heritage site.

Będąc po raz drugi w Echternach nie omieszkałem odwiedzić starego mostu łączącego Luksemburg z Niemcami. Most stoi w pobliżu miejskiego parku, kilkaset metrów na południowy-wschód od bazyliki św. Willibrorda. Obecnie most posiada cztery łuki ale pierwotnie było ich prawdopodobnie aż sześć co potwierdzają ryciny z XIX wieku. Najprawdopodobniej most powstał w czasach rzymskich co maja potwierdzać odkryte w XVI i XVII wieku pozostałości rzymskich nagrobków wmurowane w filary mostu. Na moście stoi posąg opata Jana Bertelsa, który jako pierwszy opisał historię Luksemburga.

This bridge let's you cross the Sauer river. It was old Roman and destroyed during World War II in 1944 but reconstructed some years later. It is the border between Germany and Luxembourg. There is a walk trail under the bridge along the river.

I suppose when you come to Echternach it’s almost obligatory to cross the bridge into Germany and back. In these days of free movement within Europe and a lack of internal borders however, the bridge is effectively relegated to being - well just a bridge really.
And in terms of it being a bridge - it isn’t particularly attractive or remarkable.

This road bridge over the Sauer river was probably already present in this location since early Roman times. The old bridge was destroyed in 1944 by the German Wehrmacht but later rebuilt in 1950. The statue of the Abbot Johannes Bertels (1544-1607), the author of the first history of Luxembourg, with an open book in his hands is located on the bridge.It became a tourist attraction on its own.

Rue piétonne allant de la place du marché à l'extrémité d'Echternach, traversant la vieille ville. Bordée de restaurants et de boutique. Très propre.

Echternach is a border area to Germany and the old bridge was with the river Sauer the frontier and had border trafic with control; Now the frontier are open ; Many German tourists visit Echternach for the dancing procession and for Sant Willibrord, the abbay,
and for the little touristic old town with nice shops and souvenirs; there are also a camping, nice hotels, and a very nice lake, and a Roman Villa to visit, a Roman estate in the land of the Treveri.
