We climbed steep stone steps in Kaigasse to reach Nonnberg, which was at the start of our walk across the Monchsberg mountain. The church of the Convent and its graveyard is the only part of the convent open to the public. The church interior is rather gloomy, but peaceful. Apparently it comes to life at 6.45 each morning when the nuns come into the church to sing. We weren't up early enough for that but we did hear the nuns singing in the distance on one of our visits, which was rather nice. The true life nun Maria, from The Sound of Music, actually lived here.

Ce couvent de femme est excentré et à l'écart des circuits touristiques. Bien agréable promenade. Pour les fans, lieu de tournage de nombreuses scènes de la mélodie du bonheur.

Enjoyed the walk up through older parts of the town. The builiding and insides were beautiful, and appreciated the extra information provided in both English and German.

We went on a sunny morning to Nonnberg Abbey, and the walk uphill was one of the best experiences in Salzburg. The abbey itself is very peaceful

It was surprisingly quiet here, I didn’t meet many people on the walk up and there were only two other tourists in the chapel. It was a peaceful activity and a must see for fans of The Sound of Music

This is a tranquil spot up on the hill adjacent to Fortress Hohensalzburg. Quite a climb to get there, but well worth it, as the views from the Abbey are spectacular. It was interesting to see the graves of the former nuns in the small graveyard. The Abbey was featured in the SOM so this is a significant site for fans!

Es la abadía de la que se supone que sale María de Sonrisas y lágrimas, no se puede entrar, solo se puede visitar la entrada. La subida tiene buenas vistas a la ciudad y a la parte de atrás de la ciudad.

So peaceful! Beautiful convent! Heard nuns singing. Nice views too! Great tree that hangs in the little cemetery.
