There's a good range of pistes in Mayrhofen. In common with other Austrian resorts it has excellent, modern lift infrastructure with covered, occasionally heated chairs unlike the old junk you find at Whistler or many French resorts. The pistes from the main area don't go down to the low village (~600m), you use the efficient gondola at the end of the day to return to the village.
The pistes were slightly too busy when we were there in late Jan/early Feb. The 33, 55 and 66 reds were churned up by lunchtime and problematic on the low visibility days when it was snowing - it's possible the geography makes this side of the valley a bit dark too. There can be some good, easy powder around 55. Black 34 (Harakiri) is a proper black and needs to be approached with caution. We had more fun on black 12 (Devil's run) which is relatively easy but needs some control on the lower parts as a blue crosses it and then there's a tiny mega-steep section as you go into the (congested) valley. The Horberg area seems to be quieter than the rest. We enjoyed red 10 and the runs around it a lot. Red 13 is good for getting some excessive speed on the final section. Elsewhere on the mountain, red 61 has some fun cambers.
When we were there Eggalm really caught the wind one day. I was surprised they kept it open as the upper pistes were borderline dangerous with the strong gusting crosswinds - for a few seconds I couldn't hold my position and thought I was going to get blown off the piste into rocky oblivion. Perhaps they were in the middle of shutting it down? We did see some people with an instructor walking up an exhaustingly-steep long red from the Vogelnest restaurant to avoid the chair lift.
The Horberg Shuttle is a disaster zone. It's three covered magic carpets which would usually be fine but the surface is flawed (worn?) and your (clean and dry) skis or snowboard will sometimes slip meaning you can fall over and/or bump into the person behind. I have never used a magic carpet that does this and I have used plenty including steeper ones. The congnoscenti removed their equipment and left 2-3m gap but even in ski boots you had to be prepared for some slipping.
The mountain food is typical for Austria and reasonably priced considering you are on a mountain. The cash-only Bergrestaurant Lammerbichl was one of the cheaper places, Granatalm is a smart-looking, busy place and we enjoyed eating there a few times. We ordered from the small menu at the inside counter of Schneekarhutte after a recommendation from fellow skiers but found it underwhelming.
The lockers at the bottom and top of Penkenbahn are managed by the Brundl company, there's far more at the top than the bottom. There was poor availability when we were there suggesting you should book in advance. We couldn't fit a snowboard and skis and boots in a locker for 2 - perhaps there's some way of ramming them in. These are 12 euros a day, that felt too expensive to me.
Never made it to Ahorn but did have a good day out at Hintertux which is an easy trip on the frequent, free-for-skiers greenline bus. Hintertux has a nice viewing platform on top of the the final big gondola station and there's a chance to view some sort of ice cave for 29 EUR, perhaps fun for families. I would recommend only going to Hinterux on a low wind day - check the forecast and webcams there which have wind speed.

We found Maurhofen itself far too busy with tourists. You have to love it. We stayed ourselves 4 km away in Ramsau which is directly adjacent to Hippach. Better but the busy thoroughfare that runs through all these villages is really a disadvantage. Tip: do not stay on this road, traffic is really heavy! Afternoon pool Hippach, nice pool but overcrowded. There are nicer villages in Austria than here in the Zillertal.

Very beautiful mountain with well groomed piste on all difficulties levels .

Mayrhofen was a real treat, lovely, well organised and aside from difficulty buying cigarettes as an evening smoker and some things are expensive it was well worth spending a week skiing. The scenery is to die for. The apres ski is great fun. Aside from an opportunistic ski clothing wearing thief who took my sons iphone after he fell instead of helping him, and brazenly walked past me without me realising phone was gone until moments later, we had no other issues with the town. I would recommend it without reservation. Bring cash as a lot of places are cash only

Since 2001, we have been to Mayrhofen an average of 3 times a year. Unfortunately, the whole thing is becoming less and less attractive. Every now and then the village is closed to traffic, making shopping or charging an electric car (at the only fast charging station) no longer possible. You can no longer even get to your apartment or guest house at such a time... As far as we are concerned, it is better to avoid Mayrhofen and go to a nearby village so that you are not dependent on the ideas of the Mayrhofen administration...

We were very pleasantly surprised by Mayrhofen: it was more compact and scenic than expected having thought it would be on a scale similar to Zell am See.
We stayed at The Krammerwirt hotel which is by the very picturesque square and church.
Access to the two main lifts (Penkenbahn and Ahornbahn) is at the top end of town: a 10 minute walk from the bottom end of town where we were based.
There is a regular bus service that can take you the length of the valley to pick up walks.
A lot of walks are accessible from the valley floor as well as from the top of the cable cars. There are numerous mountain huts to aim for with fab views and hearty fayre.
We got the “ two mountain” ticket which includes one up and down journey for each of the two main lifts. This is an alternative to the Zillertal Active Card.
We also hired bikes and cycled on the well marked cycle path which runs next to the river and railway line. E-bikes are available but being on the flat we cycled on regular bikes.
A must do hike is along the Stilluptal valley ( also known as the Wasserfalle weg). Hop on one of the mini busses that take you to this private land.
There was evening entertainment every day during our stay at the various hotels, the bandstand and at the lovely Waltfest Platz which is situated amongst the woods not far from the Ahornbahn. It tends to be very traditional Austrian and Bavarian music which the locals clearly love and is such fun if you like that kind of thing.
We travelled with Inghams who offer a good choice of accommodation in Mayrhofen and who also offer guided walks.
It’s worth getting a Kompass map of the area which includes access to its interactive “Pro” version of its app which details the hiking trails and your position on them through GPS.

Just back, first time here and we really enjoyed it as we fancied a more active holiday. We took gondola up the Penken mountain and sky was clear with stunning views, we also took the little Zillertal train to Jenbach and then normal train to Innsbruck, a short railride away. We bought day tickets at Zillertal station which covered this including rail to Innsbruck. The day ticket also let us hop on and off along valley to see the little villages all along. We took bus to Shlegeis, ticket covers toll road up to the dam, really worth seeing, set in natural park, stunning walks round Lake, places to eat, more difficult trails to mountain huts if you want. Bus to Brandberg which is lovely, not much there, but stop for lunch, take in views and you can walk back to Mayrhofen. We didn't buy the Z card as we found buses and day tickets reasonable, we only went up Penken once, if you went up more mountains to hike daily you would benefit from the hefty price, but we would have paid much more than what we used, buses, train, etc. Enjoy!

Bus drivers are not stopping at the bus stops.We have been on vacation in Mayrhofen for almost a week now. We have been using (or rather, trying to use) the D line to get from the lower cable car station to our accommodation. Unfortunately, we have noticed that your bus drivers do not want to stop the bus when we want to get off at our stop (Eckartau). Even when we press the red button, the driver does not stop but continues on. We shout "Halten" (stop) but he does not listen to us. This has happened to us four times already with two different drivers. Other passengers are also outraged. The driver only stops the vehicle at the next stop, after we have already missed our stop. Do you have different rules in Mayrhofen than elsewhere in the world? The negative experience we had with your transportation practices will be shared on all social media platforms.

We stayed for a week and although we never had any fresh snow the slopes we covered. Unfortunately the poor management of the slopes led to unenjoyable skiing.
The blues and reds were lumpy with lots of moguls and the thin tracks were rutted to a dangerous standard.
I wouldn’t return even though the town has been very enjoyable itself with great restaurants.
Special mention goes to Me Lei’s Asian restaurant and Restaurant Metzgerstube who tuna steak is the best I’ve had.

Gezellig , goede horeca in dorp en op de bergen, winkels. Skigebieden goed bereikbaar, o.a. Skischool met goede Nederlands sprekende leraren(v/m) voor de kleinkinderen(7, 9 en 11). Kortom fijn skidorp. Let op: als je geld gaat pinnen bij de Sparkasse in de hoofdstraat, betaal je € 5,00 extra op het te pinnen bedrag. Mpreis is een ruim gesorteerde supermarkt en daar kun je gratis pinnen.

I am booked to go skiing at beginning of February but slightly concerned if there is no apres ski and the bars are closed. I realise masks have to be worn on lifts and in queues.Are the mountain restaurants open? Trying to decide whether to postpone until later in the season. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

I will be in Mayrhofen 1st week July. Love Walking great outdoors. (Active young at heart Senior)
Any tips re weather, guided walks in the area.

Only ever been in winter Louise but I'm sure you'll find lots of things to do, be prepared that several bars still allow smoking. Lovely people though, I have a coupke of reviews on my profile if you get chance to read.

che voi sappiate é diffuso l'uso della lingua italiana? Ad esempio le escursioni organizzate dall'azienda turistica sono anche in italiano?
Le indicazioni stradali, i menu dei bar e ristoranti... insomma stando al confine con l'Italia...

Per quanto riguarda le escursioni organizzate non ti posso aiutare.
Nei negozi e nei ristoranti l'uso della lingua italiana è pressoché scarso, mentre la maggior parte capisce e parla inglese, oltre al tedesco.
