What a wonderful place. The views were stunning even on a windswept November morning. As a lighthouse nut, the views of & opportunity to photograph Beachy Head light were fabulous. Good parking and accessibility

An amazing view that gets your heart racing! There is also a little cafe beside the car park for you to get a warm drink to keep you warm while the wind blows around you! There are lots of different variations of paths and the one that I went on went down to the bottom of the cliffs which allowed us to venture among the rockpools down below!

Went up to Beachy Head whilst I was staying in Eastbourne.
It is absolutely beautiful up there and as it is so high up the views are amazing.
When I went up there were quite a few using their hang gliders.
Unfortunately the Beachy Head story and store were both closed.

The views up at beachy head are amazing, such a beautiful place. It can get very cold and windy up there,so be careful if walking near the cliff edge. There is a lovely pub, that serves meals and further down the road is Birling gap that has a cafe which is all owned by National Trust. Such a beautiful place to explore.

Throughout the summer there is a frequent 'hop on / hop off' bus which takes you to all the superb look out points. Great for photography of the white cliffs.

This is a beautiful spot to visit. Beachy Head is a prominent chalk headland overlooking the English Channel along the East Sussex coastline. The stark white chalk cliffs, around 530 feet high, create a dramatic and beautiful scene from the gently undulating South Downs on which the headland is situated.
Beachy Head is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and at the right time can be stunningly tranquil and serene. However, it’s a popular spot and during the day many visitors will be there. Standing on the headland you’ll get stunning views across to the seaside town of Eastbourne below, and across the gently rolling grassy South Downs landscape dotted with more white chalk cliffs in the direction of Brighton.
Below the cliffs is the striking red and white-striped Beachy Head Lighthouse. It is 108 feet in height and became operational in October 1902. It was the last traditional-style 'rock tower' (or offshore) lighthouse to be built by Trinity House, the official authority for lighthouses in England. The lighthouse was built to replace the Belle Tout Lighthouse which sat on top of the cliffs of Beachy Head. That particular lighthouse, built in 1834, was not particularly successful as the light was often shrouded by seamiest and fog.
The cliffs face southward and are therefore subjected to severe gales from the southwest. The cliffs are also subject to erosion and care must be taken when you are standing on the cliff edge of Beachy Head.
It’s a popular spot to visit for some dramatically beautiful coastal scenery. It’s just over three miles from Eastbourne. Most people drive, and there are ample car parking spaces available at a designated spot. For those who are not driving, a taxi will take you there in about 10 minutes; the cost of a taxi from Eastbourne rail station is about £8.00. However, it is also walkable, and whilst the walk is a little steep, it can be easily done in just over an hour if you follow the main road to Beachy Head. I believe there is a public bus route from Eastbourne to Beachy Head, so if that is applicable to you, the Eastbourne Tourist Information Office will provide relevant details. At Beachy Head there’s a popular pub, and also toilet facilities.
Not all of the headland is fenced, and in the area where a fence exists, it is in a state of disrepair. Care must be taken at the cliff edge as it is not always stable. On the day of my visit the wind was very strong, so additional care was needed when standing close to the cliff edge. There is a paved ‘Peace Path’ which allows wheelchair access.
There is no entrance fee. If you are touring the south coast, it is a beauty spot that should be included on your itinerary. I love the landscape photography opportunities it afforded me, and was grateful I could appreciate the beauty of the area.

I’m writing to whoever decided ugly bollards to prevent people parking on some of the small car parks was a good idea . I read it was to stop people going near the edge but encourages people to park at Birling Gap where they go even closer to cliff edge ! . If people want to go near edge they can walk to it anyway they don’t need the bollards to stop them . And on the other side of the road where people park to admire the Downs !! People use them to take walks so please remove them and allow people to enjoy the walks and views
Put fencing up if you are worried people go close to the edge but leave the car parking areas alone !

Hello, does anybody know if dogs are allowed all year round at Beachy Head/Birling Gap/Seven Sisters or if they have restrictions between May and September, like many beaches?
Thank you.

Hello, this is a year late as I've only just found the question. Most East Coast areas ban dogs from 1 May to 30 September. West Beach, Newhaven is an exception. Look up Coast Radar for dog-friendly beaches.

Hello,
Does anyone know the name of the road/postcode for the best car park for the beachy head?
Alternatively, does anyone know if there is a local bus that takes you from the seafront to there? If so how much?

There are a few P&D car parks on the way to Beachy Head. The main route is simply Beachy Head Road. You also have a P&D car park in The Beachy Head pub and restaurant.
There is a regular bus from Eastbourne centre up to the location you are interested in, but as I'm a pensioner, I have my bus pass so get free travel. But I would think a return ticket would likely cost about £5-£6.

There are enough parking space at both car parks. Since I am a stranger living in Japan, I don't know the best route.

How does the beauty of Beachy Head compare to the Cliffs of Mohr?
Liv B
Truro, UK457 ผลงาน
Both are beautiful. I personally preferred the cliffs of Moher (but seen from the more peaceful Hag's Head) but Beachy Head is less touristy and therefore less crowded, and still very dramatic. Check out photos of both and decide for yourself! :)

We walked along the sea front from the strand hotel then walked up hill to view point and visitor centre then back to victorian tea rooms on pier and it was exactly 7 miles in total a beautiful walk with lovely views and if your used to walking it will be no problem for you well sign posted. hope you enjoy.

Beachy Head is fairly well signposted. If you head onto the A259 towards East Dean you will see signposts guiding you towards Beachy Head.
