Well worth a visit. Light and airy with an interesting organ and great carvings in the quire. Free entry. Friendly guides there to help. Great to see the video of the peregrine falcon chicks on the tower as well.

A majestic cathedral in the heart of Wakefield. Serene is beautiful and with staff who are so kind and accommodating. The Pilkington Monument is here, together with the lovely St. Michael's Chapel. Highly recommended and not known by enough people. Off the beaten track in the very best of ways.

A very beautiful, light-filled, uplifting, peaceful haven in a large northern city. I went alone to see the huge 5-manual organ but unfortunately it was not being played at the time. The main case is of great beauty. I would love to visit again, ideally for an organ recital. The place felt welcoming. There is a good café.

A visit to Wakefield we noted the cathedral open so even living local we have never been inside.
On a cool day opening the entrance doors a warm interior greeted us.
Nice inside plenty of information to be had and the stain glass windows well kept.
Well kept inside and all easily accessible.
Impressed with the place

Beautiful well cared for Cathedral. Welcomed on arrival, joined in a service. Love the modern style altar and furniture. Shame there is no coffee shop. The gifts and books were on show but not obvious.

Teresa was wonderful in helping me confirm that this was, indeed, the church where at least 4 (maybe 5) generations of my ancestors were baptized, married and eulogized. It was exhilarating to stand in the beautiful place where they all once stood and worshipped. Thank you Teresa!

This is a gem found it in the middle of town whilst there for something else and would recommend visiting here for superb building and well information in the building

Not one of England's blockbuster cathedrals, but nevertheless it is worth visiting. The exterior stands tall and proud in the city centre, a powerful building surrounded by trees. Inside, the archetecture is superb, with hidden gems around every corner.

The tours are less frequent than advertised online, so best to check before planning a visit. And the cafe closed just the week before I arrived in the city. A decision that should be reversed. A 'pilgrim' needs her coffee!
Once a parish church, the cathedral's an interesting mix of very old and much newer architecture. A lot of lovely Kempe windows and figures of six-winged angels on the rood screen. Sadly, the pews have been removed and with them, perhaps something of the atmosphere. Still, there's a lovely 'tree' structure with candle holders, inviting the visitor to pause and to pray...and there's a human scale to the building and its exterior- which can be taken in with a single sweeping glance. Stephen (a volunteer) was generous with his knowledge of the history of the site. More pillars on one side than on the other....

We called in on Good Friday and a service was in progress. The choir was good and the congregation attentive. After the service we viewed the magnificent stained glass windows and the elegant chapel. Definitely worth a visit.
