Nice for a stroll, provided you are up for getting a little lost and disoriented at times. there is a hut with snacks, activities and loos by the carpark. Parking is generally easy (chargeable) The space itself is a lovely mix of forests, fields and lakes. A nice space close to Colchy town.

About rats in nature. Some species can be found in the wilderness, such as woods and forests, as well as fields and meadows. There are also wild tree rats that live on tropical islands.
Highwoods country park is very diverse in nature so let’s not treat like a restaurant where a rat certainly wouldn’t be welcome.

Highwoods was a mixed bag - on the one hand the park was lovely with a nice mix of meadows and woodland, some beautiful little becks, and well signposted walks. We did the red route which took us through all of the above and was well signposted (albeit some were a little faded). Initially we were pleased to see a well maintained play and picnic area, but this was tempered somewhat by watching a large rat scurry around, presumably picking up any scraps of picnic left behind.

It's a local landmark - also, the shop at the entrance near the hospital has great service such as Lateral Flow tests and other Colchester Council features. The Country park is great and kept well.

Came here for a parkrun and it was good. The park is quite big and you must go here, it is an excellent place!!

This is a really beautiful place with different landscapes. However, it is being ruined by selfish visitors who dump their rubbish everywhere. There was even a shopping trolley that had been dumped in the lake. In addition dog owners need to keep their dogs under control especially around the lake where they are supposed to be on a lead. The dog owners need to clean up the dog mess as this is a particular problem. Cyclists need to be considerate towards
people who are walking who have the right of way instead of cycling at speed and expecting people to get out of the way.

Certainly - there are two excellent play areas that cater for younger and the more adventurous opposite the path from each other just down from the visitor centre.

Yes there is a Visitor Centre located at the turner road entrance. The Visitor Centre can provide tea, coffee, cold drinks, ice cream as well as a selection of confectionary and souvenirs. the Visitor Centre is a cash only facility, so don't forget to bring some change with you.

About 5 miles maybe, not too far. It doesn't take long to get there from Frating. Once in Colchester, coming either from a12 or Elmstead market way, follow signs to the hospital as the car park entrance is on the same road opposite the walk in centre.
