Always a quiet spot to sit and wait on the platform. Parking tricky but good location for buses to Dumfries & Edinburgh. Dozens of pubs and eateries close by

Worst hotel visited wouldn’t recommend to anyone. Complained to staff about the loud disco music coming from the nearby pub was told to get a set of earplugs. This trip was booked as part of buy a gift.com so will be contacting them to recommend that they remove this hotel from there website

We travelled to and from Carlisle railway station whilst on a short break to the city on a weekend in July, we also used the station for day visits to Hadrian’s Wall, Ribblehead and Gretna Green during our stay.
Carlisle station is large with 8 platforms and serves destinations such as London, Glasgow, Leeds & Newcastle. The station is constructed of some lovely local stone and has an overall canopy roof making it very light and airy. There are plenty of customer information screens available and a staffed ticket off. Refreshment and toilet facilities are available and the city centre is a short walk away.

A friend and I got stuck as our steam train left without us. We needed to get to return to York on Sunday 10th July around 6.30pm. The ticket staff woman was just wonderful. Efficient, pleasant and helpful. The train personnel also really friendly and helpful. A big thanks for superb service.

Refurbishment is on--going. The new roof allows for plenty of light and the platform spaces are generous. The badging of the Settle to Carlisle and Newcastle bay platforms is a good idea. Ticket machines are poor and I had to report to asking a staff member to help as they ignored my finger pressing. This sue to be an issue at Euston when Virgin first installed these machines, so I wonder if it is a hangover. Still an open ungated station. Lots of opportunities to see steam engines here.

My wife and I visited the train station on our way to Scotland from the Midlands. We were delayed here as a our continuing train was cancelled. Lovely old fashioned station it has been renovated to a high standard. It is clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. Fantastic unique bar with a great range of drinks.

I had to get connecting train from oxendale at Carlisle with only 6 minutes till train left the porters kindly raced me in a wheelchair to other platform and I eventually made connection.

Does the station have a secure place to leave luggage? I have a 2 hour wait between trains and I am travelling with my dog so I would like to leave my case someplace safe and go for a walk with her.
Is there a First Class Lounge here please?
