Whilst in Carlisle for the day, we decided to visit here as it was one the top 10 places to see on Tripadvisor.
We were shocked to see how big this place is, it was never ending! We spent a good few hours in here, & definitely could of spent more. There is something for every age, with history from many different years.

Great Find on a rainy day:)
Carlisle Castle was closed unfortunately but spotted the museum across the road so ambled across & spent a couple of hours discovering more about the Roman & Viking era in the area

What a lovely place to spend time in. Clean and friendly with well presented displays. Knowledgeable and interested volunteers all around the museum add to the experience. Pleasing mix of displays, info boards and activities for absolutely all ages - toddlers to pensioners. Ticket lasts for 12 months, so added incentive to go back.

A crackingly good museum with a mixture of local and national displays. The interior is arranged to ceate an experience, not just gazing into display cabinets. Excellent introduction to Carlisle & the Borders, particularly on the Reivers and sieges, some really nice ways of illustrating the railway history in the city. There is usually a visiting exhibition. We have seen 2 of these, mainly because you can't see everything in one visit. Both superb with knowledgeable and approachable staff. We still haven't seen it all. We'll be back

There was so much to see that our short visit turned into a four hour stay, and we still didn't see it all! The Arthurian Pre-Raphaelite exhibition was excellent and worth the visit alone, but then we discovered the other floors and their permanent exhibitions which were totally absorbing and had lots of interactive activities for kids (and adults) of all ages. The cafe was also delightful with a good range of food on offer. We will definitely be back especially as we have free entry for 12 months - a real bonus.

Our daughter and son-in-law held their wedding here on Saturday. The whole day from the ceremony in the theatre, drinks reception and wedding breakfast was fantastic. Great backdrop in the gardens for the photographs, brilliant staff who couldn’t have been more accommodating. We all danced and drank the night away devouring delicious Cumberland sausage sandwiches to keep us going. Overall Tullie House is a first class wedding venue.

Traveled for 2 hours to see their pre raphaelite collection which I had seen several years before but have studied them more since then. They have a surprising selection of the main artists and even a small ink sketch by the under appreciated Lizzie Siddal.
It is a pity you have to buy a year ticket for £15 even if you are only going to visit once especially when you can get into galleries such as the Tate free but I dont suppose they get any subsidy from central Gov. The rest of the museum is also well worth a visit and staff and volunteers are all friendly. The toilets are also spotless and the Cafe has a nice selection of cakes and scones.

While visiting Carlisle for the day , we wanted to have a look at the museum as we were interested in the Roman times in the city , we enjoyed the information we received , staff very helpful

Great museum and good price to get in considering the amount of time you end up spending there. The historical clothing exhibition was my personal favourite which is in the older part of the building with a beautiful staircase and art to view on every wall. Highly recommend a visit.

As the only major place in Carlisle for the arts, I would describe what it has to offer as average. The current temporary exhibition was boring, with very little change in anything else. There have been some great temporary exhibitions in the past but this one was lacking. Please put more of an effort in to entertain people culturally.
