Absolutely amazing day out. Last time we took the kids they were very little 2 & 5. They are now 15 & 12. This time my father in law was visiting for the day and we had no idea what to do with him. We knew his mobility has gotten quite bad recently but we also knew that his love of trains was still there and so we chanced it knowing how much the kids loved coming here when they were little. From beginning to end, the staff were fantastic from helping him on to the train to clearing the track so he could walk across to see the miniatures and then doing the same back. They were so helpful, so friendly and really went the extra mile and made his day. He is still ringing us four days later telling us how much he loved the day. Thank you to all the staff for giving us a memorable day with something he loves so much. You were all so amazing.

From start to finish a brilliant experience friendly helpful staff answered all questions about the display and the running if the same. Very reasonable prices. All in all well worth a visit and great fun for all of the family.

The staff fell over backwards to accomodate our needs. Very friendly and helpful. Lovely place for old and young children.

Summerfield's Miniature Railway has recently reopened and like many railway operations has had to adapt to deal with the currently COVID-19 pandemic.
To take a ride you have to book online. I decided to take a trip and there was one space available for the day I wanted to visit so I was very lucky to get in.
The website advises you to arrive about 10 minutes before your booked departure and I managed to get there early but I did not have too long to wait.
The railway is located on the A600 between Bedford and Hitchin. If you are coming from Bedford you climb up the hill towards Haynes and the railway is on the right hand side and is signposted so you should be able to find it fairly easily.
When I visited there were 4 trains running taking people on a circuit around the line and there were nice views of the countryside including Bedford in the distance. Each train has only one carriage which takes your party on your journey allowing you to feel like a VIP!
All the people at the railway were friendly and helpful and all payments are made via contactless payments so leave your cash at home.

I am delighted they have reopened under Covid-19 restrictions. I was concerned about how safe it would be but the marvellous volunteers are taking every effort to follow the guidelines and create a very safe experience.
I have taken my daughter, grandson and mother here; everyone has thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a great place to bring a picnic or buy drinks and snacks from the buffer.
Some Bank Holidays have been busy but not at the moment as bookings must be made online beforehand.
We will definitely be back soon before the season ends.

Visited for the first time given it was the last operating day of the year and sunny, but cold. Car parking is in a field but very handy for the railway and toilets. We were then made very welcome by the members of the Bedford Engineering Society who run it. Travel is down the (half mile?) line to further miniature railways where you can take additional rides at a small cost before returning and admire the scenery. The cafe, with various snacks but not hot meals, is at the car park end of the line but very cosy. Overall the attraction is very children friendly and an interesting two hours or so could be spent there.

My grandson has enjoyed coming here since he was 3 years old. There is always something new to see each year - even more “new” trains. We visited on May Day and although a chilly afternoon it was busy with children of all ages with parents and grandparents. You didn’t have to wait long for a ride. Free parking on site and plenty of room to have a picnic (which we will go again to do in the sunshine). Well worth a visit. Very informative and helpful staff.

Lovely area and friendly staff, reasonably priced at just 2.00 per person.

Are u open Sundays?
We do open on some Sundays during our season (late March or April through to October), but not every Sunday. The dates we are open can always be found on the EVENTS page of our website.
We are open tomorrow Sunday 16th Spetember 2018.
