We have just had our Christmas dinner for 18 people, the service, food,setting was absolutely perfect. The team couldn't have done any more to accommodate our party as we had some dietary requests among our group.
The room was set out with festive decorations and a warm cosy fire and heaters.
The food came out on time with generous portions and was lovely and hot.
Definitely will be returning for some more lovey food to this perfectly run family business. Well done all.

Pricey but worth every penny. Food delicious, good service. Both indoor and outdoor were clean and the outdoor seating area is lovely. Nice and shaded in this hot weather. No complaints from us, will definitely come back

£9 for a panini with 5 pieces of limp salad and about 8 crisps £9!!!!!

We booked a table at the Crown a few Saturdays ago. It's one of our favorite places to eat out in the area and always choose the Crown as a treat or for a special occasion.
The staff, as usual, were friendly and attentive. The food was superb as always.
However, the ambiance was not. The restaurant was cold. No heating. No radiators or fire on.
My husband wanted an after dinner drink so we thought we'd sit in the bar area. The bar was virtually empty. No fire on and it was very cold so unfortunately we decided to pay our bill and leave.
Very disappointing experience when we've had so many lovely evenings at the Crown in the past.

We booked via WhatsApp which worked Perfectly. We were put on a table and were then asked to move , but didn’t mind , these things happen. The owner then kindly moved us again to a better table for our main course - 3 courses - 3 tables .. brilliant . The fire was on and it felt very Sunday, very cosy. The Food was great - the roasts were huge and my ravioli was tasty and cooked really well . Would have preferred a larger gin choice . We will happily return soon.

Disgraceful prices

Glass of wine over £7.00 and a sandwich also over £7.00. . Disgraceful prices and as it’s the only pub in the village it’s taking advantage of locals who have nowhere else to go. On the positive it does serve excellent food if you are dining out every now and then. Nothing can warrant over 7 pounds for a glass of Pinot. Greed will be its downfall.

Sunday celebration lunch for a group of 9
Very accomodating and friendly pub with welcoming service that offers traditional Sunday lunches and a full range of dishes from the menu (which is great if you're not in the mood for a roast)
Had a good mix of tastes within the party, ranging from burger lovers, to kids, to vegetarian, and fish eaters. All very accomplished quality pub food that you could tell was cooked there and then and for you.
Garden is huge, probably lovely in summer, and play areas are very safe and well kept.
Popular, so book in advance. We'll be back

This is a lovely traditional pub, in this Bedfordshire village. Lovely outdoor space and nicely decorated inside. Shown to our table by friendly staff. Couldn't fault the service. Orders suitably taken for 2 sharing platters - fish one and veggie one - 2 burgers, a fish burger special & the sea bass fillets on prawn risotto.
Starters arrived, veggie one looked lovely and our friends said so. Fish one was underwhelming - 10 small balls of over fried scampi and a small bowl of freshwater prawns mixed in Marie Rose sauce sat on top of a mound of crisp lettuce. There was also a nice portion of smoked salmon. This was accompanied by a side salad and 1 slice of 'sliced' wholemeal bread. For £16+ I would have expected jumbo prawns and nice artisan or fresh bread and butter.
The mains arrived, all looked lovely except my sea bass. Tiny fillets (looked like they had chopped a fish in half to serve 2 customers), risotto that had turned into stodgy rice pudding and green beans that had maybe hit the pan/steam for 1 minute (no sign/taste of the garlicky beans they were sold as).
Feeling very disappointed we thought that things could be redeemed by their desserts. Again underwhelming for their price. Although they were tasty, the portions were small. I had the cheeseboard - 4 slivers (& I mean slivers) of cheese. Definitely not worth the £7 charged!
Our friends, who accompanied us, had recommended The Crown, as they had eaten there numerous times prior to lock down and thought it very nice. None of companions had issues with their meals though.
At the end of the meal I did raise my conerns with the staff, who actually agreed with the portion size of the fish. I explained that I had eaten my meal as not only hungry, but did not want to eat alone had I sent my food back, nor expect my husband and friends to wait whilst another meal came for me. As I had eaten it, I was not asking for any bill reduction, but as she had asked how everything was I wanted them to know how disappointed I was and why.
Unfortunately we have eaten out several times after places have re-opened and been incredibly disappointed with the quality and quantity of food served. We accept that businesses have to try and recoup losses, but the is not the way.

Very friendly pub. In a lovely part of the county. We dropped in on our walk from our nearby stay at the amazing Landmark Trust, Warden Abbey. The landlady overheard us talking about our running low on bread and sent us on our way with a complete loaf. Very generous.

Bank holiday Monday lunch. Booked via website and helpful response re allergens. Slight mix up over booking when we arrived as we had booked an outside table and it was down as inside - quickly resolved without fuss and we had a nice outside table.
Excellent Covid precautions in place - NHS app check in, all staff wearing masks etc.
Service was prompt, pleasant staff, when asking about GF vegetarian options the Chef appeared and gave us a full run-down of what he could do which I thought was excellent.
Food service was good, not too quick and the food was good and tasty, we all enjoyed our various meals, shared started, one dessert.
Staff did a great job, especially given the heat and having to provide table service for everything. Well done!
