Some fabulous Grimshaw paintings and a very commendable effort to engage a local primary school. Very mixed bag of local artists’ work displayed and for sale. Friendly, small and accessible . Really championing the local in their outlook. Well worth a visit.

Small gallery with some good stuff from Atkinson Grimshaw and a fair few local artists and scenes based in a lovely old Victorian villa.
However, it has gone a little "woke" with trying to connect many of the exhibits to colonialism, and many of the descriptions have been recently rewritren to emphasise their wokeness, one artefact is noted as not on display to avoid offending african sensitivity, i doubt very much any africans were asked about this, just white middle classes showing their invented guilt.

There are regular temporary exhibitions and also paintings on permanent display. The temporary exhibition was an unusual one about Quicksand with sculptures in different shapes made with various materials. It was built as a family home in 1840 and called Crescent House. You pay £3 for a yearly pass for the gallery and the Rotunda Museum, but we had a tourist leaflet which gave a reduction of £1

Beautiful building just 5 minutes walk from the Rotunda, for which you only pay £3 for both. Interesting collection, lots of local artists and helpful staff.

Some interesting Victorian paintings in this 'posh' part of town. The building is handsome and well proportioned and there are just the right number of paintings. Not too many, or too few. Great local seascapes by Victorian painters.

Take you time and enjoy what they have on officer, engulf yourself into the paintings and see for real what has been drawn.

The Ant-ic exhibition is really interesting. It is only in 2 rooms so doesn't take up too much time therefore if some of your group are not necessarily into art they would still enjoy this. The Atkinson Grimshaw restored pictures are fantastic. At £3 for an annual pass this is excellent value!

A rather sad experience. We enjoyed the temporary exhibition of Atkinson Grimshaws and one room from the permanent collection. However several rooms were closed and there was a modern exhibition based on ants which wasn’t to our taste. With some investment it could be much better.

Only got a whistle stop tour as I had small chldren with me but there was a lot for their (fleeting) interest including a current set of miniture houses hidden around.
Price of entry includes Rotunda Museum and is valid for both for a year. (which is why we ended up visiting)

We booked this place in advance with my National Art Pass, so got in free. You have a times one hour slot to complete your visit - this would be enough time for most people. It is the most beautiful Italianate villa, so worth a visit to see this. There are some interesting pieces of art. In particular paintings by Leighton and, having been to his house in Hampstead, these were particularly interesting to me. My favourite part was a special seaside exhibition with people involved in the museum all contributing their favourite memory or artefact that gave them fond memories of the seaside town of Scarborough. Well worth a visit.
