Quite a quaint little town. Let down by its money gabbing nature. I go every year but have not been since covid until now. The place has really gone down hill and not because of Covid, it has been declining for many years. I go, as most do, for the books. The books have become extortionately overpriced, in line with the parking charges, food prices, and toilet charges. I mean with small child and a baby I must have spent £5 on the toilet alone. And I found myself standing in shops looking at a book I fancy with the tag of £8 and in the other hand my phone, with Amazon open and the same book only £3 including postage and I think to myself why on earth did I leave the house and waste so much petrol driving so far. If you've not Been before I recommend going as the shops and village are quite quaint and pleasant and there are some gems hidden away, especially if like me it's older books you are looking for. Otherwise just open the eBay or Amazon app and save yourself a lot of cash. I think hay will no longer be my annual pilgrimage.

Hay on wye is a little gem. Ideal for a short break or as a base for a longer break in the Brecon area. A small walkable town, I’m sure it’s very busy under normal circumstances, I probably enjoyed my visit all the more as it was pretty quiet! I’ll visit again I’m sure of that.

Lovely place to visit. Renowned for the many books shops. Lots of antique shops, cafes, well worth a visit.

Hay on Wye was actually a bit disappointing. Many of the gift & antique shops were still closed from COVID. Obviously, lots of bookshops to browse.
Streets were not pedestrianised so not great for a peaceful wander with the kids. Hay Castle was being renovated but the visible bits looked pretty (we did not go inside). Other than that we did not see lots of historical buildings.
There is a huge car park right in centre of town (Oxford Road), which was quiet early but got busy later.

Will visit again in the spring ..hopefully it will be a visit that I won’t forget! The shops were not that I was expecting, overpriced tat! Sorry!!

Never been to Hay-on-Wye and made a point to visit. Very quaint town which is probably very busy in the Summer months. Full of specialist book stores and small cafes. Food is relatively expensive, although found an inexpensive cafe, called Angies frequented by the locals. Good for a light bite.
Nice town to wander around and spend a few hours browsing the shops.

Great town to visit if in the area. Bookshops galore; good cafes pubs and food. Large car park near centre. Beautiful riverside walk along the Wye.

Visited on Wednesday 5th June, there is so much to see and do in Hay, book shops, antique shops, Market Hall and Thursday's market. As well as having something to eat and drink. We have visited many times over the years and still find something new every time we visit.

Plenty of local parking.
Festival was on so quite standard prices for parking of about £3.
So much to do spot and well worth about 3 hours of your life.
Plenty of pubs, book shops, cafes and art places.
Would recommend.
