Loved this museum! Greeted by friendly and knowledgeable staff and then treated to an array of wonderful objects. All the exhibits were well presented and captioned and there were lots interesting objects you could touch and interact with. Well worth a visit.

Lovely friendly welcome.
We learnt lots of history of Lowestoft fishing industry pre 1960’s.
Very interesting and saw some great archive films as well.
They also stock some lovely, great priced momento’s and little toys.

Had an excellent morning out at the museum! Staff was very friendly and eager to help us look around the exhibits. Excellent value for money both entry fee wise and in terms of souvenirs; would heartily recommend visiting if you’re in the area.

A wonderful gem of a museum packed with interesting historical artefacts. A huge array of model ships and information about all aspects of maritime history including boat building and wartime events. The couple running the museum were friendly, warm and very knowledgable. The gift shop was very reasonably priced. Would highly recommend it.

Let's be honest. When I learned this museum was created and run by volunteers I lowered my expectations. How wrong can you be? It is amazing. The displays are interesting, informative, and the reconstructions, ship's wheelhouse, fish market, etc are well designed and built and really tell a story. There is a lot to see and much to learn if you want to read details. Well worth visiting. Fully recommended.

From the outside the museum appears to be within a small cottage but the building extends to the rear, so there is much more to see than I expected. I read all the information as I went around the museum, watched 5 of the 6 films (as one wasn't working at the time of my visit, and played a game in the children's room, all this resulted in a visit of two and a half hours. Having spent so much time on my visit it's obvious I found it to be very interesting. With an admission price of £2 per adult and £1 concessions, it provides remarkable value for money. Volunteers on duty during our visit were friendly and helpful. The museum is accessible for wheelchair users and there is a toilet adapted for patrons with disabilities.

A gem of a place with all things heritage and maritime related to the town and its history. Whilst visiting there are so many other facilities to enjoy with parks, refreshments and the north beach.

The diminutive flint cottage frontage belies a generously sized and far reaching collection of all things maritime, with a local slant. The staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and are on hand to answer questions. The displays are very well presented and obviously a huge amount of thought has gone into their layout, and interpretation boards, so you get a real sense of the history of the area, and understand what you’re looking at. There are videos to watch, interactive displays and activities for smaller children. The fishing industry, wartime exploits and even the actual contents of the workshop of the inventor of the hovercraft are all comprehensively covered, and the collection of model boats and ships is particularly splendid. It’s very affordable and offers an hour or mores entertainment, and is well situated for a seawall walk or playing in the park for the kids and a nearby cafe for the grown ups. A very enjoyable afternoon, and we also loved the well priced gift shop!

Superb find, well worth a visit, a little long walk from the town centre but worth it. Lots of interesting exibits, stories, videos, very reasonable enterance fee £2. Very friendly and helpful staff
