Room- all I can say is big. Looks clean but bathroom disgusting. Shower - dirty,opened door and decided to not use it. Bath not bad. Fungal all around frames.
Swimming pool small but nice. Not really clean. Sand on jacuzzi don’t know where from. Spa treatments- massage fantastic. Restaurant - breakfast very poor. Decide to not try other food. Bar- not serving cocktails due to short staff.
Receptionist- one lady very nice and helpful. Another one looks like don’t like this work. Magazine on the floor, they now picked it out

Hotel without prosecco on a prebooked 40 th....
6 of us ladies booked the 'pamper me' spa day package at the sketchley Grange for the 23 Rd of December 2020.
Noneof us have been at this place before and this was my 40 birthday celebration. All of us have been through the tough times of social isolating soon after we all given birth to our babies, so we wanted to feel pampered and special...
Upon arrival to the spa we were greeted and we were made to fill in the two page longish forms in regards to our heath and any conditions we may have... Weirdly after we filled in these forms we place them all together and handed them to the woman at the water bottle fridge counter in the lobby area of the spa section... No questions were asked who is who she just took the forms and we all immediately thought what a waste of time that was as they obviously didn't ask us to hold the form and give the form to the therapist indivisually.... So not sure what was the point of those.... Thank god I wasn't pregnant or not had any problems but no one asked me at any point if there was anything on the form I should made them aware of...
The actual facial and back massage were lovely, my lady that did the treatments was amazing and very professional yet friendly so big praise there!

The pool and actual spa areas were not brilliant... Haireverywhere in the showers..and dirty floor in the ladies toilets.
Pool had a jacuzzi and whirlpool both were easily accessible we waited our turn and managed to have a go so not bad. The steam room and sauna were closed. Given times of covid that's understandable but I don't see any point manking those closed if you already have people together in the jaccuzi and pool and changing rooms where people mingle fairly close by...
We hada main problém with the actially service or a lack of it by the spa lounge holding area and also the bar. I will get back to the bar...
We thought our lunch will be served to us at the restaurant or in some nicer area... We were however seated at the holding bland and coldish area by the spa perspex windowed area adjacent to the spa pool. The tables and chairs were ofa what I call a garden furniture. Plastic rattan effect with the fabric stained seat cushions. We all had to pull three seats by one LOW Cofee table style. So we were ultimately had to put our plates of food on our laps...
This was not the best start.
I then asked for a bottle of prosecco ( I have rang upon booking and paying for the spa around the 2 nd of August - and specifically asked to have two bottles of prosseco to be reserved for me as I wanted to make sure we will celebrate a little as it was my 40 th) I was met with the answer we run out of prosecco and we don't have any left. I laughed as I thought this was a joke. Hotel of that size should count with weddings and should be prepared to know what bookings they have for the Sunday not just for the weddings guest. If you as a hotel can't hold more that one type of guests and more demand over the weekend your bar manager should be dismissed from your employment as if anyone rings you and asks for specific numbers of prosecco or any alcohol if the special occasion needs it you should not have a problem to order sufficient amount of alcohol to cover over heads... It's almost as I would turn in a pub and they would say they have no beer.... Sorry not good enough!
So we ordered a bottle of wine. Which was not ideal but at that point I given a hope to celebrate.

We all had sandwiches and salad with some tortillas on a side of the plates. We were given a sachet of mayonnaise on a side and salad had a small pot of sauce that came with the plate on the side of the plate. The portion was small. We did expect slightly bigger lunch portion prat least chips with the sandwich not few tortilla chips. We were not given any cutlery though and that was
bizzare as you would expect to have
a cutlery if you get salad or at least a
fork with a napkin would do...
We had to grab a member of staff all the way back to the spa reception
- walking away from the lunch to the
spa reception.
The cutlery only arrived after about 15 mins. So everyone left they salad on a side uneaten as most of us didn't want to eat salad leaves with our hands...
Some of us then had the pm treatments so we waited for them back in a spa but since there were only 6 loungers around the pool and most of them were on one side not evenly spread out we had to al cramp sitting on two loungers amongst 6 of us.
So couldn't really lounge or rest as much. Which I am not complaining as to be fair the area was not big enough to hold more so that is something that can't be changed I guess.
We then moved to the bar... We were hoping to be seated at the restaurant but we were not been given the option to do this and we are not sure why. We were all nicely dressed and they were very very quiet so maybe they couldn't be bothered to move member of staff to a restaurant? Not sure... But we do know that our drink, food and service experience continued to disaapoint.
The woman that came to serve is was a tad miserable or came across unhappy to serve us maybe she had to do a double shift for the wedding previously? Never theless we all noticed she not smiled or acknowledged us in a nice professional Manor one would ecpect if you are at the hotel and spa... Not a pub.
We were told again that there is no prosecco even at the bar.
We ordered the food - the menu was very sparse. Maybe due to the fact this was a bar menu.
Two of my friends received a partial order and they had to ask for capers to be added to the salmon order as it was mentioned on the menu but didn't manage to present it self on her plate... Not sure of the other mess up but I think one portion of chips didn't turn up.
I also had one single gin and tonic drink and chose the specific brand of gin from a medium priced menu ofgins not the premium expensive range.
The final end of a bad service (and the fact that food was very bland and very boring and nothing special of a kind I would probably go as far as saying a pub standard at its best....) was when the bill came. I was charged cheekily the premium top brand of a gin tanquerey even though I stood at the bar and asked and saw bartender to pour a cheaper brand of gin to my glass and also a magical extra portion of large chips was added to the bill amongst with another diet coke...
We had to ask the bill to be changed as we noticed these things only after we were adding the amounts of what was had by whom.

We despised to leave a small tip even though we didn't feel that the hotel deserved this tip. Ita a shame that the amazing service only reached as far as the treatments we had anything apart from the moment I left the treatment room fell to pieces. Now I know this is not champneys... But one would expect a slightly better service than what we received and I am afraid I will not be returning to your establishment.
And I am afraid none of my 6 friends would be returning back either as they were all left with a bitter sweet experience of what it could have been... And wasn't delivered.

I wish I could have left my tips with the lovely spa attendant ALEASHA, whom deserved every penny of her hard earned salary....!

Terrible service

I opted to stay in this hotel due to the hotel location and the pics which seemed nice.

Upon arrival not only was it confusing but the service lack lustre...the room was clean but in parts damp with a loud leaky toilet but didn’t think much of it at the time.

I dined in the bar/restaurant which was understaffed, which led to the service being extremely slow and staff members being confused. I had a drink served to me which needed to be sent back because they had run out of syrup (surely this never ever happens with the most popular drink) anyhow I ordered the Tikka which I had 4 bites of before leaving.

The above I wouldn’t normally complain about if it wasn’t for the next complaint as I can appreciate Im not paying to stay in the ritz however to be put into a room whereby I wake to a ceiling that’s leaking excesses amount of water is disgusting. My concern is that it’s obviously been a problem for sometime due to the damp on wall and ceiling which they have tried painting over.

As a business and knowing of this problem is bad enough but to allow a customer to stay in this room on the basis of the weather being good and it being unlikely is astonishing particularly when cleanliness and safety are topical points at the moment.

Friday night stay over

Although in the current climate with business struggling and making cuts to staff and service they have worked miricles at sketchley.

Clean rooms ambience of high quality and attentitive staff and food.

A special mention has to go to a chef there called Glynis. The breakfast was that good I asked a waitress for the chefs name. To give her a well earned mention.

Normally wouldn't bother but bacon was crisped to perfection sausages full and plump and tasty mushrooms usually oily but on these ones they were succulent seemed oven cooked like I do at home. Fresh tomatoes and scrambled eggs hot and tasty.

I shall return next time I'm over this way as it really is the best place for miles.

Nothings ever too much.

Great relaxing place

A fantastic place for relaxing. We loved the swimming pools, including tea by the pool, the hot tab and jacuzzi. The hotel is really clean and comfortable. Staff is always very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

The hotel is extremely confusing to navigate around. It can get quite frustrating at times.
The air-con in the rooms needs a serious refit. It's incredibly noisy, we could hear the unit clunking away in the next room.
All night we could hear people stomping about, televisions in the other rooms and the monotonous drone of air-conditioning units. We didn't sleep very well.
The room was clean and breakfast was nice however, we wouldn't stay here again.

The staff were great, and my massage with Abbie fantastic, but otherwise... from the dirty cushions in the cold ‘lounge’ to the mouldy, peeling walls, and the cold pool and cold restaurant and the poor excuse for a spa day lunch (a handful of cheap crisps, a cup of cold soup and one of the most uninviting and tasteless sandwiches I’ve ever eaten), and the long poorly signposted trek through the hotel - to avoid having to go outside (which we were told was the shortest way to get to the restaurant) in the freezing cold in swimwear, flip flops and robe, to the rolls of hair in the corners of the changing room and the toilets that didn’t flush and the scalding showers (warmed me up after the cold pool tho) and no shower gel or shampoo, nowhere near enough chairs or sun loungers and the huge pile of vomit in the car park, well... the title of this review summarises things perfectly. Shame tho, as the staff really were great, and my massage truly relaxing.

My birthday treat

What a lovely 24hrs, we got full use of the spa we was in the pool area most of the day, booked a back massage for me and my partner, this was amazing and was made very comfortable, went down for 3 course meal, this is the best service I have had when being in a hotel, a young lady called Joanne was amazing, she went above and beyond for us, my husband is a very fussy eater but she made sure that he was happy with his meal and sorted it out for the things he doesn’t eat, she was a very lovely lady who made us very welcome and always had a smile on her face.
We definitely will be returning and hope to see her again. Please make sure she reads this and thank you x

An ok spa weekend

We’d booked a spa weekend package for 2 nights at a reasonable price of £225 each. It was all ok, but nothing really special which surprised us for a 4 star hotel. The hotel is ok, but tatty in places, in the dining room the tables are scratched and some of the corridors/ stairwells are in need of a lick of paint.
Treatments in the spa were good, particularly the massage, and quick pedicure. It was very busy on the weekend we were there, so the pool was quite noisy/ nowhere really to sit.
In the restaurant the team were great, particularly Sally (who sorted out a couple of problems for us) and Abbie The food was generally good, starter and desserts were well presented (unlike the main, I had steak and it was literally just the steak, chips, tomatoes and a mushroom, there was no greenery or decorator be seen.)
The reception team were ok, but not particularly friendly. So, overall ok, but not special.

I went for ‘De Stress’ spa day with my friend. I have visited previously around 25 years ago and I don’t think the place has been updated since. It is very shabby, in particular the ladies changing facilities. There are not enough beds or chairs for all guests around the pool and the place is very drab. To get your ‘light lunch’ you have to go to the main hotel, which means a walk through the car park in your robe, swimwear and flip flops - no thank you - or you wind your way through corridors and up and down staircases with very little signage giving direction of where to go (reception just pointed to the door you go through initially). When we eventually found it after having to ask cleaners along the way as we got lost) we had to sit in the bar in our robes and wet swimwear where a wedding reception was also taking place, while getting very strange looks from the wedding guests, whilst the one girl on the bar tried to serve everyone and just told us she would be ‘with us in a minute’. Eventually we did get our very literal ‘light lunch’.

I will not go back and would definitely not recommend it to others, my advice would be to save up your money and go to a proper spa.
