What a hidden gem!
Last trip out with my grandaughter as the summer holidays come an end.
Our first time here.
There's something for everyone.
We enjoyed the clothing exhibition and the interactive war exhibition.
Being able to try clothes on for adults and children was such fun making memories.
My grandaughter loved the handout to find different items to tick off her list!
The little cafe had lovely coffee and biscuits and the staff throughout were welcoming, knowledgeable and helpful.
We will definitely return for another visit.
Highly recommended.

A really interesting museum. All the exhibits were well labelled and related to the local area. The fashion section was fascinating and brought back many memories of my childhood and teenage years. A really dood day out and lovely staff.

Really enjoyed my visit to this museum once the home of J. Ackroyd, an industrialist and philanthropist. Murals on the walls, fancy ceilings, interesting architecture. There was a very good exhibition of fashion and a separate one of hats. Plus paintings galleries and a section devoted to the Duke of Wellington's regiment. Staff were friendly and very welcoming. There's a cafe in a beautiful room-hot drinks and biscuits only.
The building is set in grounds which forms a public park with play area for kids. Near the museum is Ackroydon which is where Ackroyd built houses for his workers many of them surrounding Square Park. I enjoyed walking around there.
Free admission and parking.

House of a former Industrial Tyrant during the 19 th Century but purchased by the Halifax Corporation in 1887 And has been a museum ever since.
Best feature for me was the Duke of Wellington's Regimental Museum which covers 300+ years of history.
Well worth a visit.

We basically visited the museum as there was an exhibition of the costumes used for the TV series Gentleman Jack and we weren't disappointed. Although even if you aren't interested in this programme there is so much more to see and we would definitely visit again. The staff were very welcoming and friendly.

Came to see BBC costume exhibition but there is so much more to see. Lovely friendly staff to welcome you in .Exhibits from Shibden Hall, local regiments and textiles and clothing .Area to have tea/coffee /biscuit .Best dress up area for adults I've seen with period costumes to try on .Well worth the £3 suggested donation .

The entrance gate is easily missed, so be alert. The first view of what has been a lovely house is rather shabby with an ugly modern front door. There is blue badge parking to the rear with a ramp and no step entrance. For those entering at front door a fabulous ceiling greets you and many many stairs. No handrail, be careful if you go this way in.
The staff and volunteers made us very welcome and the exhibits we saw were very well displayed. The museum is free to enter and well worth a visit. Please donate in the boxes provided.
Sadly the roof is leaking and many of the wonderful ceilings are suffering badly.
There are facilities to get a drink and a very small gift shop.
Any person with mobility issues. the many stairs to the upper floor pose a massive challenge. There are very few chairs to rest on and no lift or stair lift. The website does not mention this.
A lovely building and surrounding grounds in desperate need of some more love and lots of money.

To see the exhibition of BBC Gentleman Jack Costumes. Breathtaking, in a stunning historic building. Taking the Bus from Halifax town centre to this iconic building of yesteryear is a joinery through time anyway. The costumes are stunning, in a museum of outstanding history of the town of Halifax. Set in park land.

Visited to see the display of costumes from Gentleman Jack which are well displayed and very impressive, of great interest to both the fans of the TV series and those who appreciate fine couture. Also visited the Duke of Wellington`s Regimental Museum on the same floor, also worth seeing to appreciate its history and service. Found all the staff to be friendly and helpful and enjoyed the cafe, as well as the elaborate decor in many of the rooms. On the day that we visited the rain was torrential and buckets were out in force to catch the drips from the roof, showing how much the museum needs more support and income. Please visit and leave a donation.

My sister and 2 nieces are planing a trip to England in May. We want to visit Akroydon village- Colonel Akroyd was our relative and we are very interested in seeing the village and especially the church he founded. Do we need to reserve a time for a tour? Are there restrictions on when it is open to the public? Thank you.

Having been as a visitor this museum is very much an old style house converted to a gallery so I do not think they would allow dogs other than assistance dogs.
