No other race course like it!

No other race course like it! As someone that has visited many racecourses the atmosphere both on the track and off is like no other. Yes I'm a big racing fan but this is the best one for the day out and its uniqueness.
The only disappointing part of this is that it is not the best for viewing the racing.

Good day out

Lovely day out with loads of different shops and bars to visit. Also you can go to the pubs in the village that look really nice, there is a good bus service to the train station also to get you out of there easily. Not to pricy to go in and the drinks at the bars are reasonable.

Still good but pricing getting out of control.

Been going to Cartmel every year since 2006 (I think), then it cost us £7 each on the course side. Same ticket this year cost £25!
Normally we go 2 or 3 times a year, sometimes 4, this year it was just the once due to the cost. As it was only £2 extra to go paddock side we went there and have to say the ambience was still there and had a lovely day.
Only real downside (apart from the cost) was exiting the seven acres car park. Normally we give it 15/20 minutes for the initial surge to calm down, 45 minutes elapsed and it was still carnage! Fortunately we joined a queue which seemed to be moving and were out pretty quickly from there. It's probably because there are a lot more cars in seven acres, much less inside the course itself these days.

Greedy Cartmel replacing cars with buses

Terrible organisation for entry, parking and exit. No longer rail parking but not informed until after buying the course parking tickets. Only 100 cars allowed in the centre of the course as they now swamp the area with buses. No longer a family racecourse they have got greedy and have replaced families in cars with lots of buses of drunk people. Do not go with a family anymore.

Cartmel race day out

Cartmel racecourse is unique. On the paddock side you can study the horses prior to each race and enjoy the winners enclose afterwards. On the course side there is a funfair and it y it’s less expensive . It is easy to walk to one of the jumps to be in close proximity on either side or to walk down to the start to watch the horses lining up. There is a grandstand and plenty of big screens too . This fun day was originally on whitsun bank holiday and many of the workers from Barrow shipyard would come on the train for the day. - walking the final two miles! There are five wonderful pubs in the village all serve good good food, plus local brewery & artisan cheese shop..

Cartmel has to be the worst racecourse in the UK. If you are interested in horse racing then give it a big miss. It is nothing but a rip off 'Family Fun Day Out' type of setup designed to part you from your cash as quickly as possible. Part caravan park, part funfair, part picnic site part stalls selling all sorts of tat. The smallest part of all is the horse racing. The viewing of the races is shockingly bad! You probably can only see around 20% of the race live. The rest you have to watch on a big screen as the view is completely blocked (I can watch the racing on a screen at home). The paddock stand is very small, it has no seats and no cover whatsoever. You are open to the elements and there is nothing you can do about it. The entrance fee of £27 to the above Paddock area is a complete rip off. If you want to park near the course it's another £10 parking fee. The free parking area means a trek across the fields to get to the course. Plenty of places to picnic if that's your thing. But for the prime picnic spots you need to book in advance and pay for them. Cartmel is nothing but a fast buck, money making exercise with the horse racing as the excuse to get you in. If you want a day out when you are visiting the lake district - then fine. If you are interested in and want to watch horse racing then forget it. It really is poor. I'll never set foot in the place again.

Have been visiting Cartmel since 2013 and love the place. We stay in Lancaster and catch the train to Cark on race day and have done since the start. Usually there is a bus waiting to take the train passengers up to the course ( double decker) pre COVID the price was £3 return, this year however it was £4 each way per person (2.2 mile journey) That’s one hell of a price hike and in my opinion unjustified. Still it didn’t spoil the day at one of the most enjoyable racecourses in the country where you can take your own beverages, food, etc. Sort the transport out and it’s a perfect day.

HOPELESS BUS TRANSPORT FROM/TO STATION

Echoing a review from June, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO VISIT CARTMEL RACES IF YOU ARE USING THE TRAIN. We arrived at Cark station at 10.25 to find that the shuttle bus promised on the website did not start for over an hour, so had to walk over 2 miles to Cartmel. After the races, numerous other people had been told the shuttle bus would pick up exactly where they were dropped off. Over an hour a queue of maybe 300 people built up here - no sign of any buses! I had to walk back half a mile to find an event steward, who advised the buses now stopped a quarter mile further out. Even then there was nothing or nobody to tell you which was the correct bus/stop, leading to an unsightly scrummage of people trying to get on every private bus. Every single person missed their intended train. A COMPLETE SHAMBLES and Cartmel need to sort out a proper shuttle service before you even think of visiting by train.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere with good racing cartmel is fun day out.
Viewing from the small grandstand is rather limited and I think the £27
entry fee is a bit steep considering the facilities.one thing I did miss from
a few years ago is the ringing of the bell when the runners came round the
finishing straight,I wonder why they stopped doing it?
