The staiths is an impressive structure especially if you know a little of its history - there are information boards around, and you can walk on part of it.

It is such a shame that this iconic piece of Geordie heritage keeps being burned down, it truely is magnificent, so thugs, you have been warned, keep your filthy hand off of it!!!

A family bike ride took us from the Pipewellgate car park along to the Staiths and back.
It’s a lovely area and surprisingly green for an old industrial area.
The Staiths were built in the late 1800’s to take coal from Durham coal fields to the South Tyne bank to be loaded onto ships and taken to London and further afield.
The Staiths are grade 2 listed and you can access them, but not at the moment due to Coronavirus. Check out the Dunston Staiths dot org website for when you can access them.

It's been a joy to watch the Staithes being restored in recent years and opened to the public after a long period of decline. It's an incredible structure, well worth a visit. Great views towards Newcastle Quayside and the various bridges over the Tyne and a good place to observe the local wildlife, much of which lives in and around the neighbouring saltmarsh. Particularly worth a visit during the annual Late Shows, when you can take in the sunset over the river.

So it isnt pretty but it is another feet of construction and comparitively hasnt been out of use for that long. It is now listed so will be preserved too.
You can walk to it along the Gateshead side from Milenium bridge by the river, couple of miles, and there is a great cafe there to reward you.

I love the Staiths, this café and the glorious views of the Tyne. Well worth a deviation from town. It can get very busy in the mornings at weekends but the brekky is well worth it. Choose from the menu at the counter and pay first.

This Staiths is unique in the world & treasured by our community as an amazing historical feature of our industrial past (sadly some local criminals feel that it is appropriate to try every couple of years to destroy it! ). Great when it comes alive with local food markets

this is a lovely place for cake and coffee,and the fact that it is dog friendly does it for me,in a great location by the Tyne very relaxing.

Its a good size and very impressive, but you cant really access too much of it. Lovely views up and down the river from there tho.

You will not see anything like the Staiths anywhere else in the world. Make sure you take your camera. Good place to walk or ride your bike and information boards to give you the history of the site. Great cafe/restaurant on the banks of the Tyne.
