Great estate run by the National Trust. Bit of a rocky road up to it, lots of pot holes but scenic. Good parking.
Might be an ideas to have Times of tours listed at the entrance when you drive in/paying at the kiosk in drive way.
Lovely coffee shop in the grounds and toilet facilities.
Excellent tour, very knowledgeable about the family and history, lots of original features and furniture.
You can see how the National Trust are repairing section by section. very interesting.
Lasts over an hour and ends the kitchen area and you exit by the servants quarters through a tunnel which is different. Very good.

There are very pleasant grounds with three walking trails of varying difficulty at Castle Coole.
We found the National Trust staff very helpful and they provided a site map on arrival and described the trail difficulty levels.
There is a small playpark, a bookshop, a café, a visitor centre and a car park all near each other.
Castle Coole house is impressive from the outside although we didn't do the house tour.
The grounds were well maintained and there was no litter scattered around.
Thankfully, there was no dog fouling either.
We weren't lucky enough to see any Red Squirrels but we did see a Great Crested Grebe on the lake.
As per all National Trust properties, the entrance fee is expensive, although the annual membership pass to all the UK properties is a good way of making a visit affordable.
In my opinion, this place is definitely worth visiting if you are visiting the Enniskillen area.

Disappointing, and expected more as a National Trust site. On entering, the road into the car park is filled with deep pot holes, totally unacceptable and dangerous. Could easily and quickly be filled in with some gravel. The stable block is grim, cold and uninviting. Perhaps flowers, climbing roses, a paint etc would give some period charm. The book shop is lovely, and cosy. I wonder why all the ancillary buildings are not utilised by the NT? Such a missed opportunity to enhance the visitor experience. Why not use them as little shops/studios selling local art and crafts, fresh seasonal produce, bakery etc….
The house itself is a masterpiece, but lacking somewhat in impact on its site- a formal garden in front would make a beautiful addition and offer something to see and appreciate for the visitor.
The walks around the lake are nice, but once again there’s not much to see. The overall site is quite a let down in terms of things to see and do. Would be wonderful to see a kitchen garden, orchard, sculpture, gardens etc as it would have originally had.
Finally the coffee shop is in a quaint building, and there’s a good selection of food and tray bakes etc. However the service is quite rude and awkward. No smile, hello, welcome…. Just sullen, bored faces staring back. Felt uncomfortable to be honest. The sandwiches are ok but nothing special. The tray bakes taste like cooking chocolate, and were too sweet. Disappointed by the standards and expected more for an NT site.
Overall, we wont be returning. Once you see it, there’s no reason to go back, which is a great pity as the site has so much potential.

We’ve been to Castle Coole many times and the main reason for that is because it’s there. It’s nice and it’s there.
Today was no different.
When we arrived at 3:20, the next available tour was at 4:15 so we figured great, we’ll get something to eat in the little cafe down by the stables then stroll up to the castle afterwards.
The receptionist had the personality of a dry quiche, but maybe she was having a bad day/year so we gave her the benefit of the doubt. The sign on the wall said the cafe was open til 4 so, after paying £13 for 2 house tour tickets, we headed on down.
Apparently the server in the cafe was having an even worse day/year than the receptionist because when we asked for 2 soups she immediately barked “You know the kitchen closes at 3”. Did we?? We ended up settling for the leftovers of the day which consisted of an old jambon and croissant. What a privilege! At least the tap water was free.
If you’re going to have tours as late as 4:15 then perhaps it’s good practice to keep the kitchen open until at least 4? People were arriving even later than us and they too had to settle for the basics - teas, coffees, brick like tray bakes etc.
Eventually we sauntered up to the castle and spent some time staring at the miles and miles of lawn the estate seems to specialise in. I love a good lawn, though I seldom pay to visit one. The place is very tidy and the grounds are well kept with some charming spots to sit down and relax on a good day.
Our tour began in the front hall as usual. The guide was friendly but managed to create an atmosphere similar to that of a dentist’s waiting room. We’ve done this tour multiple times before and found it rather enjoyable, but a lot of that clearly depends on the charisma and knowledge of the guide on the day. Today’s guide certainly seemed to know enough and was relatively personable, but that’s the most I can say.
The house itself is nice. Lots of paintings and things you’re not allowed to touch or take home. The saloon is the stand out room of the house, no question. However, just like Florence Court, the tour tragically ends in the darkest, dankest corner on the servant’s floor with the door being shut behind you like you were picked up at the red light district then kindly escorted off the property before the neighbours could see. If I could give the National Trust any advice it would be to either start the tour in the cesspits and work your way up or at least loop the tour around so it comes back to the entrance hall followed by a hearty “cheerio”.
I’m sure we’ll be back to Castle Meh again. Like I said, it’s nice and it’s there.

Fascinating place to visit. Great grounds and lovely coffee shop. House was fabulous. Disappointing you can't take photos but understand why. House tour with Jennifer was very detailed and very well delivered but also very long. Started midday and we didn't get to the tunnel at end until 1.50. Would've been helpful to have seating in entrance hall for the very long introduction and also more seating available for a short rest throughout the house. Also useful to have prior warning for visitors of the length of the tour?

Lovely coffee in the tea room which is a converted stable or other old building, so lovely.
Very thorough guided tour, kids got a bit bored though. Wouldn't recommend taking under 6s as it does last 1hr15 and you can't touch anything. Lovely to see so many genuine artefacts and learn about the history.
The ice house is neat as is the underground servants area!

Beautifully kept historic house. Went for the tour inside. The guide seemed very knowledge of the house's history.
Dropped a star as you can't take photos inside which is part of the experience for visiting somewhere like this.

We enjoyed a tour of Castle Coole today. Jennifer was our tour guide and she made the tour interesting and engaging for us all and involved the children throughout. Would thoroughly recommend a visit

Castle coole is a beautiful, well presented National Trust property. The staff and volunteers are a credit to NT as they put so much effort and pride into taking care of this jewel of Fermanagh. Short walk around the lake or take a longer walk around the forest and house, coffee shop also, and so much more. Definitely worth a visit.

May visit in the summer. Got two x 2 yr olds will us. Can you get a push chair around the lough Coole ?
เขียนเมื่อ 8 เมษายน 2017
Yes there's a solid path the whole way round the lake it will be no problem with a push chair. Certain areas of the forest walk towards the old icehouse may be more difficult but should still be ok.
