Many thanks for your review. We are sorry that you do not understand how The Clay Studio works. We are a predominantly adult relaxation activity, ideal for a few hours of calm. However, it is also great for children who have a good attention span. It is wonderful activity to undertake as a family as it is something that children can undertake alongside adults. Unlike other family attractions we allow one non-participant (non-painter) per booking. This is partly for safety reasons and out of consideration for other visitors but also to ensure that those wishing to paint are not turned away when we have seats occupied by non-painters. We prefer this approach to changing an entry fee to every person which is the other option as chosen by other family activities such as cinemas, theme parks, etc. We are only a small business and we are frequently operating at full or close to full capacity so we cannot accommodate additional non-painters. A large number of non-painters would require us to charge higher prices to those painting which would be unfair. Usually everyone is painting in their own right. I have noted that you chose a small, low-priced piece to paint. Clearly, this is OK for one person but we had two non-participants not painting their own piece. During the booking process you are told three times that we allow one non-painter per booking (a painter is defined as painting a piece in their own right). Therefore, you paid a child Studio Fee of £3.50 and the price of the piece. One non-painter was admitted at no charge. The other non-painter was charged the minimum painting price (Studio Fee plus the lowest-priced piece) of £15 and you could have painted this piece too without any additional costs. You were charged considerably less that we would normally expect from three people painting. We do also state when booking that there is another option should you wish to have several people painting one piece or you wish to have “spectators”. We have a paint-at-home option where you can purchase your piece and paints, collect from us and then return for glazing and firing. We trust this makes things clear. We are an honest, long-established business and we are very transparent about our cost structure. All our prices and conditions are clear on our Web site and when booking. You were charged correctly in line with our published costs and conditions.

Hi Julia We are very pleased you enjoyed yourself at The Clay Studio. We are always try to be friendly and relaxing. As far as the costs are concerned we keep the prices as affordable as we can but we do have to pay our bills and the taxman so prices are determined by this. There is a wide range of prices so there is something for all budgets and the is no time limit on how long you can stay painting at The Clay Studio. Furthermore, all our prices including the 450+ pieces available for painting are shown on the Web site so you can know all the costs before booking your table to paint. We believe we are good value compared with other leisure activities (and many people have told us this) if you follow the guidelines given by our staff and take your time planning and painting for maximum relaxation over a few hours.
