I'm generally reluctant to write negative reviews, and don't get wrong, this pub stands all tests of time, I've loved since I was a lad, but what has happened??? I wholeheartedly agree with preserving the olde world charm here, but it's a pub, why can't you have music, why can't I read the news on my phone? They've tried so hard to not spoil it; the friendly, lively atmosphere has been spoilt! The beers still fine, I did only pop in for a nostalgic pint while waiting for a bus, but new management needed to bring this corpse back to life.

This pub is a gem. No phones, dogs or kids. I am a dog lover and currently have a 4 year old carpathian Shepherd. The beer (Sam Smiths) is superb. Any poor reviews are probably from fruit cider and budweiser drinkers. As various people have said, lots of pubs that are dog/kid /phone friendly so, go there! Don't change Nellie's.

Great old fashioned pub with gas lights and lots of quaint rooms. Good real ale from Sam Smiths (Old Brewery Bitter).
No mobile phone/electronic gadgets allowed - just conversation with people! I like this.

In fairness, Nellies has always been a bit rubbish with bloody awful beer but now Samuel Smiths have excelled themselves by banning dogs. To be frank the entry of our Terrier (before we were chucked out) raised the standard of hygiene rather than the other way around.

Well proper traditional local pub, a pub that family have called their local for years. The charms and character is absolutely amazing. However; don’t take a dog in, not welcomed. Don’t get your phone out, not allowed, don’t go with children as they are barred. Now come on it’s the 21st Century. Always used to have dogs allowed and families welcomed! While the phone rule has always been a normality, we could understand if no flash photography was allowed but by all things bright and beautiful, look after your customers. Pint was scrumptious as always, the rules well rather sour.

Positive, very old historic building, a maze of rooms with character and features
Beer very nice and cheap price.
Negative. Despite old character loads of tacky signs throughout the pub.
No dogs
No children
Cash only
No phones/laptops
Entered as lone traveller and no phones were to encourage conversations however barmaid not trained in starting one!
All the signs were excluding and negative 👎

This pub caters for those who dislike children, phones, dogs and fun of any sort. I hope they enjoy themselves. A lovely pub ruined. Many more to choose from in Beverley. No point asking for a photo (below) as you can’t take any.

This used to be a really nice cosy pub, but for some reason it has recently been invaded by the puritan fun police. There are laminated signs on literally every wall and most of the tables warning you not to use your phone, not to use social media, not to take photos and not to swear. It feels like you're being treat like a child by Big Brother.
In this day and age there's no escaping technology, but I don't think any other pub has been negatively affected. If someone else wants to use their phone on the next table that's entirely up to them and doesn't bother me, and if your own friends are constantly using their phone then either tell them or find some new friends. Why should the pub stick its nose into other peoples concerns with their strict rules?

Went here as is the oldest pub in Beverly. Was looking forward to taking some photos to share with friends thinking about visiting. We went in to be welcomed by the most miserable barmaid I have ever come across. There was no greeting,smile or conversation throughout service. To top it all we then went to sit down to be faced by a laminated A4 sheet of paper on the table which gave instructions that we were not allowed to use mobiles to receive or send text. Take photos etc as this pub was for people to speak to each other and not sit on their phones. The photos I longed to take would have been shared world wide to included many visitors in the future. What a shame. As far as the young barmaid goes she was definitely a mobile presence that was either very low on battery or completely switched off.

I arrived on a quiet day hardly anyone in the pub and next thing I was told no phones its 21st century everything Is contactless, and qr codes I'm avoiding every pub associated with Sam Smith I was simply minding my own business and wasn't bothering anyone while enjoying my drink I've never known a pub like it in my life Not Going Back Again!!!

Hello. Children / infants are welcome, although not in the bar area, or beyond early evenings. All that is asked - especially for safety reasons, due to the nature of the historic building, with open fires - is that children are kept under guardian/parental control, at all times.

Hello. The White Horse Inn (Nellies) is situated around 5-10 minutes walk from the Minster. It's actually adjacent to the Bus Station, on the edge of the Market Place. If you was to exit the Bus Station on to New Walkergate, and turn sharp left, you will have the carpark entrance, and pub rear entrance on your left.
