Lovely to walk along the riverside, so much going on with nature & watching the birds in particular on the water, it can be as long or as short as you want, really depends on your fitness levels as there are a few steep bits depending on where you venture off too (i.e the road to the cathedral) & there’s plenty of cafes & bars to tempt you along the way, Saturday was very popular with many people around, just ensure you wear appropriate footwear as it gets very muddy in places!

If you visit Durham city you must see the river and experience the pleasant walk. I combined my visit here with walk on riverside and also local cafe both an enjoyable experience.

We had sun and no wind. So perfect walking weather round the base of the Cathedral and Castle. Just remember to climb back up if you want to visit either of them.

Pleasant walk. Interesting on Sundays because of all the rowers but quieter in the week. Durham could do with producing a better town map to show all the options.

One of our favourite pastimes when visiting Durham is to stroll along the river. I usually favour the bank opposite the Cathedral as you get better views but this time we stayed on the same bank.

Easy walking and absolutely stunning. We found it peaceful and tranquil. Seating available too along the riverside.

Cathedral/Castle sit on a promontory almost surrounded by River Wear. You can walk the "outer" or "inner" riverside walks or mix of the two using the bridges. Really pretty walks, only short. Flat with quite wide and well maintained paths throughout. Very accessible for all.

リバーサイドの内側外側（一部リバーサイドを走れない箇所はあります）を早朝にランニングしました。
墓地などもあり不気味な感じもしますが自然の中を走っている感じがして気持ちよかったです。

Durham riverside walks are beautiful. The city is beautiful and some of the better views are to be had from the riverside. It needs investment though to tidy it up and measures introduced to help make the lone wanderer safe. I didn't feel unsafe but can imagine some would. The boat clubs also need to smarten up their boathouses with signage and a lick of paint.

Hi,
If you’re staying in Durham itself in a hotel and have hotel car parking then you can start and finish at the hotel as the river wraps round Durham. If you’re staying in Durham and there’s no parking then the Park and Ride is probably the cheapest option. City centre the Walkergate car park has overnight parking if needed and is the best value I think.

We were there in February, so didn't think much about picnics, but I doubt if it is the best place for them.....

We only walked about 30 minutes on one side and back on the other so an hour altogether at a leisurely pace starting from west of the castle near silver st bridge.
