This is a Maypole. In May when it is use it is a pleasant ty day out but at any other time ion the year it looks like another flagpole which we have enough of already in Norther Ireland.

We always try to get here for the May day celebrations and see the school children of the village strut their stuff in what must be a ceremony steeped in history.
There is always a good turnout and it's well supported by families and friends.
There is usually a market in the street as well which adds to the jovial atmosphere and happy ambience.

May Day is probably good. But otherwise it is just there. Nothing much to see large tall pole. Same not decorated. Display as to how it looks on May Day near site might be a good idea.

Looking for something interesting and fun on mayday saw this advertised online craft stalls games lots of fun
All there was was one craft stall way overpriced no quality tombola after tombola with prizes not worth the ticket price a few car boot type stalls and stalls selling badges and flags saying Holywood on them dozens of overpriced food stalls there was more of them than anything else the only good thing to watch was the Irish dancers but where not on long enough they should have described it as a kids day out never again

A part of Holywood history. Still part of Mayday celebrations when local children dance around it. The flag is lower to mark the death of Holywood fools. It lies in central Holywood and is part of what is a lovely seaside town.

During Mayday this place comes to life with a market down the main street, and exhibitions of dancing round the Maypole, with live music, street entertainers and plenty of good food an event worth taking all the family too.

I don't know what to say about it. It is there on an intersection and actually near some antique shops and Camphill Community Organic foods, where nice food is available to sit in or take home.

Holywood town is worth a visit, lots of coffee shops, eateries and charity shops but if you come simply for the maypole you may be disappointed to find it is just a pole in the middle of the road.
