Free of charge. Pick up the key from the outside of a house nearby.
Lots of info about the history of the church and some quaint little peculiarities about the building including some building blocks with inscriptions taken from Roman times and some interesting grave inscriptions.

Such a cute little church full of history. We went after seeing the reviews on tripadvisor and are really glad we did. You get the key off a house nextdoor and let yourself in. There is a visitors book which we signed and lots of information in there all about the church and the different features. Very well preserved piece of history that’s definitely worth a visit.

One of the oldest churches in England. Tiny but it takes you back in time. The site appears to probably go back to Celtic times. It won't take long to visit unless you wish to stay to pray, contemplate and/or meditate. The church is locked but the key is always available from a house behind the church. It hangs outside so no need to knock.

Beautiful church but who in their right mind decided to build social housing around it…and not very nice at that!! Surely Durham County Council housing department should enforce a level of proprietary in keeping with such a historically significant building. The surrounding areas are an absolute eyesore!!
Make sure if you visit you park in front of the church gates, look in the church yard and exit the village the way you came in. Don’t wonder what is behind the church… you will be disappointed, if not dismayed!!!

Achingly beautiful in its simplicity, this is well worth a visit. You simply collect the key from outside a local house and have the church to yourself if you wish. Plenty of helpful guides available too.

Spiritually uplifting to visit this famous church which is an oasis of calm, set in a small village high up on the hills. It is incredible to see the early architecture and the use of Roman stone cannibalised from other sites nearby no doubt. The serenity of the building is lovely and it was stimulating to be able to sit and meditate and pray in such an ancient Christian site.

This is a lovely, peaceful church well worth visiting. You feel you could almost touch the peacefulness, both in the Church and in the graveyard.

Would be even better if you could actually see the church from the road in all its glory... but, unfortunately it has been hidden from view by overgrown trees, which could do with a trim!!

This is a wondrous small Church and amazing to see it standing proud after having been on the site since around 675AD.It also has the oldest sun dial in its original setting in the Country and lots more of significant historical interest.

What a find! This is a lovely little Saxon church, in its original grounds. A fascinating look at one of the oldest churches in England, with excellent notes and descriptions.
