Una crisi di successione portò disordini in Scozia; il re d'Inghilterra Edward I, nel tentativo di governare la Scozia come signore supremo tramite funzionari inglesi, marciò verso Nord con una serie di sanguinosi assedi ed il suo esercito pianificò di attraversare il fiume Forth allo Stirling Bridge ma - nel 1297 - fu qui fermato da William Wallace, a capo dei proprietari terrieri ribelli, che si guadagnò per sempre un posto nei libri di storia.

Stirling Bridge or rather the battle of Stirling Bridge was where William Wallace came to the fore by defeating the English assailants. A beautiful location over the River Forth in Stirling.

A ponte é pequena, mas interessante. Foi o local da batalha de Stirling entre escoceses e ingleses no final do século XIII. A ponte original era de madeira e uma parte caiu na batalha. No filme "Coração Valente" não é retratado o local como sendo o da ponte, mas foi lá onde de fato ocorreu.

A lovely old bridge over the Forth - with interesting historical connections such as the battle of Stirling bridge (although this stone bridge was constructed a few centuries later) but you can still get the idea! - just watch out for mad cyclists speeding down. Nice views of the river and also the Wallace monument behind the east side, with the Ochil hills as a backdrop.

You really need to understand the history and strategic importance of the bridge. This is pedestrian bridge which I walked across on route to the Wallace Monument

As we had decided to walk from Stirling Castle to the Wallace Monument, we ended up inadvertently crossing this old bridge, which was nice to see, in keeping with our trip from one monument to another

We stopped off at this bridge to bide some time between visiting the Wallace Monument and Stirling Castle. We parked in a side street leading up to the bridge and walked over the cobbled walkway. No cars are allowed over. Worth spending some time just to admire the workmanship and architecture.

A bridge in Stirling. It goes ftom one side of a river to the other. Some say it is the River Forth but I contend that it is the Teith.

Lovely bridge which was a great spot for photographs on the way to the Wallace Monument. Open to pedestrians.

It's an old bridge linked to an historic event, that of the defeat of the English army by William Wallace, a local hero. Mind that there is another bridge nearby where cars can run, while the Stirling Bridge is for pedestrians only. Walking along the bridge is really nice and there are some beautiful sights of the River Forth, the Wallace monument and the Stirling Castle.

We will be visiting Stirling Castle in the morning and will be packing a lunch. Are there any reasonable places to sit and eat on/near/in view of the Stirling Bridge?

I'm sure this is a bit late... But yes, you can. It is about a 10/15 minute walk from the train station.
