My first glimpse of Hadrian's Wall, shameful when I'm such a history geek. A lovely area, well looked after and maintained.
The carpark is paid for by texting a number, nice and easy, with the money going towards the upkeep of the site.
A couple of plaques explaining how the tower would have looked, are vey informative. It shocked the old folks I was with that the original wall was an earth embankment with towers.
With a short 2-3 minute walk to Pike Hill Signal tower its easy to include both sites in a single visit.

The remains of a hill turret of Hadrian's Wall is still extant in Bank, a tiny village. It's right alongside the roadway, with a small, free parking lot, and an excellent view of the countryside. This last fact is probably why the turret was originally sited here. Nothing higher than shoulder-high is still standing, but a very good panel gives some of the history, and the Hadrian's Wall Guidebook completed our meager education about this location. If you are in the area, it's well worth a visit.
