Il fut construit pour desservir la garnison qui allait s'installer grâce à l'intervention de Georges Clémenceau. Ensuite une convention est passée entre la Ville et l'administration de la guerre, représentée par André Maginot, pour faire bénéficier les Luçonnais d'une distribution d'eau courant. Ce monument se caractérise par sa structure en béton armé dit "Hennebique" du nom de son concepteur qui réalisa la premiére dalle en béton armé de fers ronds. Ce château d'eau est désaffecté en 1982 et classé Monument Historique en 1992.

This listed historic monument is an important component of the skyline of Lucon. An information panel outside gives details on its past and design (in French) - it has a unique design for a water tower. The building itself is in need of some care and attention.
