Ein sehr liebevoll und schön gestaltetes Museum! Auch die Sonderausstellung mit diversen Musikinstrumenten zum ausprobieren war toll! Freundliche und Fachkundige Mitarbeiter stehen bei Fragen zur Verfügung. Das ganze befindet sich in einem echten, alten Appenzellerhaus. Perfekt!

My family hopped into this museum during the alpine descent parade, while waiting for the cows to arrive. We only speak English and the staff was so kind in trying to accommodate us. The highlight was the children’s scavenger hunt, complete with a flashlight, measuring tape, magnifying glass and other tools used to do puzzles on the booklet (in German only but easily to manage with google translate) and ultimately unlock a prize at the end. The museum is so hands on and engaging, our 7 year old really enjoyed himself with ringing bells, playing instruments, etc. Against advice, we skipped the video (offered in English and other languages) but circled back to it as it really is necessary to watch in order to understand the costumes on display. I’d be amiss not to mention that half of the museum has VERY low ceilings. At a hair over 6ft, I had to keep my head slightly lowered and full ducking through entryways.
We’ve been to dozens of museums across all of Switzerland and this is one of our favorites. Such a unique traditions and culture that we knew nothing about. Really, one of the most interesting things we’ve experienced in Switzerland with also super generous and kind staff. We highly recommend a stop if you find yourself in the Appenzell region.

I went here on the recommendation of Rick Steves guide. Exceptionally nice museum. Staff exceptionally dedicated and helpful about explaining things. Very nice film in English about customs.
Easily got there on the train from St. Gallen. Short walk from Urnaesch train station.
Highly recommended.
Covered by Swiss travel pass.

super. eine wirklich schöne und interessante ausstellung. das ambiente ist sehenswert, diese ausstellung ist empfehlenswert, für einheimische und touristen. preislich ist es vollkommen ok. die mitarbeiter sind sehr freundlich.

Sehr guter Film zum Silvesterchlausen, viel altes Handwerk und eine tolle Ausstellung zu Musikinstrumenten, die auch ausprobiert werden können. Sehr geeignet auch für Familien mit kleinen Kindern.

Ortsmuseen sind periodisch einen Besuch wert und dieses in Urnäsch erschien mir besonders reichhaltig.
Eine meist SchwarzWeiss-Fotoausstellung über das „Silvesterklausen“ gibt’s aktuell als Sonderausstellung zu sehen.
Auf den VideoRaum mit 20-minütigem Film wurden die Gäste aufmerksam gemacht. Dieser war sehenswert und informativ, kam hingegen doch etwas „verstaubt“ herüber.

Ein Museum auf dem Lande für die ganze Familie geeignet, das einen sehr guten Einblick über Land und Leute und Brauchtum im Appenzell gibt. Sehr schön und eindrücklich gemacht auch mit einem kurzen Film. Die Leute sind sehr nett und geben gerne weiterführende Auskunft. Ein Besuch kann ich nur empfehlen.

We went there on Sept 23th and had a guided tour in swiss german which was outstanding. The guide was Hansueli Frick and we learned so much details about local culture. Believe we paid 8 chf each. Highly recommend if you are touring in Appenzell
