This area is worth a day trip. To get there is already a pleasant experience in taking the stranseilbahn from Locarno, followed by the gondola to Cardada. You can continue your trip to Cimetta with the chair lift but you can also decide to hike to the top. You have different tracks to get there, one of them is well indicated with signs and the walk is around 5 km and fairly diverse. As you have to conquer quite some height meters (especially in the end), you need to calculate a bit more time to get to Cimetta. On the way, you will pass some inviting restaurants for a refreshing drink or ice cream, most of them with a beautiful view over the valley.
Directly next to the gondola station, you also have some activities for the kids, like a little play ground next to the restaurant or the bigger arc of Noah play ground, the senses walk path, the big blue bench from which you have again a spectacular view over the valley (but which also invites for funny pictures) and last but not least, the terrazza panoramica which gives the best views of Locarno and lago Maggiore.

Von 200m üM fährt man mit der Luftseilbahn auf die Cardada mit 1‘340m üM und dann mit dem Sessellift auf die Cimetta mit 1‘671 üM. Dort wird man erwartet mit einer traumhaften Aussicht auf die Italienische Bergwelt, die Walliser Bergwelt mit der Mischabelkette mit 18 Viertausender und den Berner Alpen mit Eiger Mönch und Jungfrau.
Es gibt nur wenige Orte in der Schweiz an denen man ein solches Panorama hat. Einfach traumhaft. Die Kosten von CHF 28.00 oder CHF 14.00 mit Halbtax lohnen sich mehr als. Die Aussicht ist mind. CHF 50.00 wert. Für nicht Bergler sogar ein Mehrfaches.

Wir sind mit dem Sessellift bis ganz nach oben gefahren. Von hier hat mein einen wunderschönen Ausblick auf Locarno und den Lago Maggiore. Es wäre schön, wenn in die Gondel der Seilbahn in Corona-Zeiten nicht so viele Menschen gequetscht würden. Wir wurden vom Personal angeschnauzt wir sollten gefälligst einsteigen, weil die Bahn ist immer so voll.

My wife and I were vacationing in the Lago Maggiore region and traveled to Cardada via funicular and cable car - that was fun.
At the top in Cardada, there are hiking trails, a small chapel, and nice restaurants. The views of Lago Maggiore, the mountains, and Locarno are amazing.

Wunderschönes Ausflugsziel hoch über Locarno. Die Aussicht ist traumhaft, auch gerade von der Cimetta. Interessante Lerntafeln zum geologischen Punkt. Sehr gut ausgeschilderte und schöne Wanderwege. War entspannend und schön, die Wanderung zurück auf die Cardada.

Gardada liegt auf ca. 1300 m und bietet einen schönen Ausblick übere Locarno und den Lago. Einige Wanderwege, zwei Restaurants, wobei uns das ca. 400 m von der Station entfernte sehr gut gefallen hat. Bei schönem Wetter auf jeden Fall einen Ausflug wert. Viele Pick-nick-Plätze.

Was für ein toller Ausflug. Ich war sehr positiv überrascht. Für Kinder ist dieser Berg genau das richtige. Es hat viele Spielplätze, kurze Wanderungen und die Schatzsuche ist am Anfang etwas verwirrend macht dann aber viel Spass und es gibt im Tal unten ein wirklich tolles und nützliches Geschenk. Unsere Kinder waren begeistert.

We visited with a 6 year old child and she was given a treasure hunt map at the cashdesk which allowed us to explore the area with some prize at the end. The view is beautiful, there are several restaurants. We did a hike from Cimetta to Cardada and it was ok with a child.

Se volete trascorrere una giornata all'aria aperta, questo è il posto ideale per farlo. Tramite la piccola funicolare che si trova al centro di Locarno (proprio davanti alla stazione) si sale fino al Santuario della Madonna del Sasso ( dal quale potrete godere di una vista mozzafiato). Da qui si prende la funivia e si arriva a Cardada dove c'è un intero polmone verde che vi aspetta! Mi sono piaciuti i vari giochi presenti nel bosco ( le altalene sincronizzate, il percorso sensoriale) e c'è anche un punto panoramico. Inoltre potete trovare un ristorante e i bagni pubblici. Poi, per arrivare a Cimetta, si prende la seggiovia, che è inclusa nel biglietto della funivia (tra l'altro associate a questo biglietto, ci sono delle offerte per i ristoranti presenti sul posto). Se non c'è foschia, una volta arrivati in alto, potrete godere di un panorama unico: le altissime montagne alle vostre spalle e davanti a voi il lago Maggiore. Il costo dei due biglietti per ( funicolare- funivia/seggiovia) se non erro si aggira intorno ai 30 franchi

Hi, no there isn't skating. It's basically a cable car lift for 70 people up to the first level with a viewing point and a children's play area then c chair lift to the summit to see amazing views.
