We visited AstroLab in late August 2022 as a family of 4 with 2 young children. We selected a private session as we were worried we might disrupt a larger group if the children were tired (the session starts at 22:00h).
From the convenient booking process to the professional pre-session interaction we were very impressed with the experience…in particular because we were offered an alternative date to what we booked due to a poor meteorological forecast which suggested overcast skies on the night that we originally chose.
On arrival there was a brief orientation and explanation of what we would be doing during the session and we then climbed to the top of the tower (there is a narrow metal staircase so if you have limited mobility please call ahead to check if it’s suitable for you).
Jose-Antonio was very patient and helped explain what we were seeing (both with the naked eye and through the telescope) in a way in which it was understandable for the children but also interesting and entertaining for us all.
We observed Messier objects, distant stars and also not-so-distant planets in our own solar system as well as some bonus satellites zooming overhead. I really didn’t think the children would stick with it for as long as they did (especially since they had already had a full day of tennis and beach activities) but it is testament to Jose-Antonio and his partner’s efforts at keeping us all engaged.
This was absolutely worth the trip up from the coast (took us 1 hour from Marbella) and we had dinner in Yunquera beforehand which was pretty basic but nice (service quite slow in the mountain villages so give yourself at least 90 minutes for dinner)!
Would definitely visit again and highly recommend!

Superb evening in the company of Jose Antonio and his colleague. As complete novices it was a real eye opener. But to have seen Saturn and Jupiter on our first such foray astronomy, was such a result.

Estaba deseando conocer a mis profesores del curso de astronomía, me han acompañado en online durante todo el año y este era el escalafón perfecto. He aprendido un montón de cosas que quiero seguir ampliando. Vivir en presencial todo esto y poder mirar a través de un increible telescopio me ha fascinado. Nunca imaginé poder ver tantas estrellas desde Málaga, la localización es maravillosa. Volveré a ver noche de planetas esta vez con mi pareja y mis hijos. Muy recomendable. Y por cierto, espectacular lo cuidadosos que son cumpliendo el protocolo Covid.

Superó mis expectativas. Se supone que duraría 1h aprox pero la pareja de profesionales que nos acompañó no tuvieron problema en hacer un magnífico trabajo que nos dejó alucinados. Las explicaciones de Jose hacen que hasta parezca fácil mirar al cielo !! En nuestro caso, vimos la luna ocultándose por el horizonte, Júpiter, un par de estrellas de verano curiosas, un par de cúmulos de estrellas indescriptibles y como guinda del pastel... Saturno con sus anillos. Además tuvimos la suerte de poder estar en manga corta (nos explicaron que esto era súper raro y que se recomienda estar MUY abrigados aunque sea verano) y tuvieron un detalle donde nos trajeron pastitas y limonada. Experiencia súper recomendable. Merece la pena su precio y la hora y pico que tienes que pasar para llegar al sitio. Hay que ir cenado ya que el pueblo tiene limitadas opciones.

Descubrí Astrolab en 2019, desde entonces he realizado varias actividades, Bosque de estrellas, Descubre el Sol, Aprende a manejar tu telescopio y este año le regalé a mi pareja una sesión privada por su cumple y nos encantó, disfrutamos de la Luna, vimos cómo nos sobrevolaba la Estación Espacial Internacional y también observamos Júpiter y Saturno. Recomiendo cualquiera de estas actividades, María y Jose explican genial, son muy agradables y siempre hacen que pasemos un buen rato y que aprendamos.

Una vivencia para repartir y repetir..en un lugar encantado. Saber y ver lo que tenemos encima de nuestra cabeza y observar la maravilla del universo, con dos profesionales super amable que te hacen viajar allí arriba.

Una velada muy agradable impregnada de ciencia, historia y folklore y combinada con el toque cautivador del firmamento nocturno. Totalmente recomendable. Hagan caso a la recomendación de llevar mucho abrigo.
