Unfortunately the spa has down hill over the last 6 months or so
The thermal suite is hit n miss with no consistent water temperatures
The sauna in the hydrotherapy suite is regularly not at a consistent temperature
One of the booths in the hydrotherapy pool where the bubbles come up from the floor has not been working for over 6 months as well one of the experience showers
The pool temperature is hit n miss.
The general maintenance of the spa is poor and certainly not maintained to a 5 star standard

I've been a couple of times to this spa before and while I've enjoyed myself, I've never been blown away. This was until we tried one of their new spa packages! and experienced the Spa Garden :-)
The Afternoon Revival Spa Package includes use of spa from 11am to 5pm, with 90 minutes in the Spa Garden and a 60 minute treatment. We paid £276 for the 2 of us and I feel this to be excellent value for our experience.
We were so lucky that when we went across to the Spa Garden the sun came out for us and the large bifold doors were wide open with a beautiful panoramic view of the pool infront and the hotel grounds in the background. We saw many baby bunnies in the grounds which was lovely to see. We were very lucky as we had the whole place to ourselves for 10 minutes or so before the other guests arrived, and even then it was very quiet, which made for the perfect experience.
The Spa Garden is really beautiful, we enjoyed floating in the small infinity pool and relaxing in the lovely seating areas. There is also a tea/coffee/hot chocolate machine for guests to use, the only way it could be improved would be with some little nibbles / biscuits, but there is fruit.
The choice of treatments included in the package was much larger than I expected too, maybe around 12, anyway it was very hard to choose! We both opted for Himalayan Salt Ritual and while a lovely package, I would choose something with more massage next time. My mum however thought it to be the perfect treatment, leaving her skin so soft and smooth, and would definitely do this again! I would like to thank Rachel my therapist who was lovely and gave a wonderfully relaxing treatment.
We arrived at 11.30am and didn't leave until nearly 5pm but the day absolutely flew past! Such a wonderful way for me to catch up with my mum and a special birthday treat. We will definitely be back for my mum's birthday in a few months and will definitely be buying the same package, as while the spa area is nice enough, the Spa Garden is really special :-) and I can't wait to try another one of those treatments!

We visited this spa with high hopes of it being the best, but unfortunately it wasn't. Yes it is 5*, but unfortunately the spa didn't really relax us. The saunas were all the same temperature, even though they were supposed to be different. When I sprinkled water over the coals, they just stayed wet and didn't even hiss! The hydro pool area was far from relaxing. There is a pointless water fountain in the middle of the pool, which just made it very noisy! The tiny infra red sauna was like being in a wardrobe, just a bit hotter. Can't say the steam rooms weren't particularly steamy either. Then there was the igloo, this was the best room, but we didn't get hot enough to really need to be in there more than 2 minutes.
We paid extra to use the spa garden, the sauna there was a bit hotter, but the heated loungers were not heated at all. The small outdoor hydro pool was wonderful to use though, with lovely views. Luckily there wasn't anyone else in there, or it would have been rather crowded with another 4 +couples.
We finished our spa early, and planned to try it again the next day after breakfast, hoping the saunas would be better and the steams to have more steam. But we're shocked to learn that they wanted an extra £80 to go in there, as can only use the facilities until check out at 11am! (We were not informed of this at all, until check out) Had we have known this, we would have obviously gone in there early morning, rather than wondering around the grounds. We have never experienced this before in other 5* spas, normally usage is until at least 14:00 the next day! When I expressed our disappointment about this, over a lengthy discussion with the manager we were offered a rather offensive "gesture of goodwill" ......10% off !! It really would not have hurt to have allowed the usage of the spa, especially given the previous days experience.
Due to the way this was handled, unfortunately we won't be going back, and continue our search for a Luxury, relaxing spa in the North of England !

I visited rockcliffe on 29th August with my Mam and my sister for my birthday. I have waited a while to write a review as we raised some concerns with the reception staff whilst we were there, I held off on writing the review to wait and see if the staff would be back in touch with us to feed back / address the concerns we raise, but unfortunately the staff have not done so. Given the price that we paid and the mediocre spa treatment my Mam received I think this is poor customer service.
Long story short, my Mam and I received the same spa treatment but had an extremely different experience which you would not expect when you book the same treatment. I understand that the treatment may differ slightly depending on the therapist who performs the treatment but the differences we experienced were not slight. We received the neom massage where the wax from a burning candle is used as massage oil: this oil was hot during my treatment but cold during my mam’s. Our understanding was that the wax should be hot … considering it is coming from a burning candle. I know that candle was burning throughout my treatment as I could see the flame from the candle when the therapist was pouring the wax on to my body. My mam did not have this same experience, she did raise this with the therapist at the time and questioned why the wax was cold. When the treatment finished my mam asked me if my wax was hot or cold when I told her mine was hot we raised this with the reception staff and we then spoke to the reception manager.
The reception manager listened to our concerns and said that she would raise this with the treatments manager but would have to wait a week as the treatments manager was on holiday. She also took our details which led us to believe we would get some sort of response / explanation as to why we both booked the same treatment but received a very different experience.
I have waited to leave this review as I wanted to give rockcliffe the chance to investigate and response. They have not. This has tainted an otherwise lovely experience and unfortunately because of this I will not return to rockcliffe in the future.

We stayed at Rockliffe to celebrate our anniversary and the service was incredible. At check in we received a warm welcome, when we went down for dinner the lady who seated us made a big fuss of me and was really excited for us celebrating. We had the tasting menu in the Orangery which was fantastic the waiter was attentive and had a great amount of knowledge about each course. The Spa was lovely and had loads of different experiences to try and our room was beautiful. Couldn’t fault it and we left super relaxed. It was a great way to celebrate.

My husband was bought a voucher when he retired for dinner bed and breakfast.
We used it for my birthday treat.
Pros.....upgrading to an amazing superior room....absolutely beautiful.
Reception staff very welcoming and friendly.
Cons......went to have a pre dinner drink in the bar.... absolutely dead....no atmosphere...lovely staff but got the impression they weren't encouraged to chat with residents. Only us and another couple in there.
Went for dinner in club house....staff lovely.. however I ordered a med/well done steak and it arrived bloody. Waiting staff kindly took it away....but...second steak arrived exactly the same but also had loads if grissly sinews in it. I left it as didnt want to make a fuss. For the price very dissatisfied. I expected much better.
Breakfast....full English.....reasonable though we both agreed bacon was dry and lacking in flavour. Service was good....again food disappointing for the
cost.
Overall disappointed with what should have been a really special treat

Exceptionally well run hotel by Jason, Alex and the team. Nu Sana as a restaurant is tremendous; great range of dishes, great service from Ruth and her team.

We stayed for a weekend as a family of five, and it was just the relaxing break we had hoped for. The staff were friendly, the grounds were well kept, and the food at the golf club was great.
The spa itself is top class, serving fresh smoothies poolside and offering a variety of options to relax (sauna, steam rooms, igloo, jacuzzis).
Would go back for sure 👍

I visited for a solo spa day and was disappointed to see the facilities looking a bit run down, the robe was old and tattered and they no longer provide slippers (for environmental reasons). However, lunch at Nu Sana was lovely as was the massage although the therapists really push sales of the products after your treatment, which I HATE!
I’d say the overall experience was more 4-star rather than 5-star and as the most expensive and ‘luxurious’ spa day experience in the north east I would expect more.
The saving grace is the spa garden which is fabulous.

Stayed overnight at this amazing place.
From entering reception the service was top class. All staff were friendly and helpful which made our stay an even better experience.
our room was perfect with our own private patio with the most amazing views overlooking the golf course. Evening meal was good at the club house and breakfast in the orangery was brilliant, there was a good range of quality products to choose from and also a cooked menu too.
The spa facilities offered a lot of different experiences, hot room, ice room, pool with different areas, sauna, outdoor hot tub and the list goes on.
To finish our trip away we did one of the walks around Rockliffes grounds in which we were given a map by the staff that had several different walks mapped out for you to do.
I cannot recommend this place enough, I can honestly say it was faultless.
Well done Rockliffe Hall and all it’s staff.
