Wonderful center but lifeless, many shops are closed and there is no parking downtown, really absurd.
The city has some amazing monuments Arch Trajan, Church of Hagia Sophia, neo-Egyptian obelisk, Cathedral Mary of Graces..

Little publicized city probably, but absolutely not to be missed.
Rich in history, archaeology, Roman remains, period buildings.

Always an excellent break for a walk, shopping and an aperitif. The new access and the new rooms of the diocesan museum enrich the lists of extraordinary testimonies of the city's history.
It's a shame that the convenient and central car park next to the Duomo has been closed.

Walk at night, in a silent but very enjoyable Benevento. The main attractions of the Samnite city unfold along the main street: the monumental complex of Santa Sofia, with the church and bell tower, the Arch of Trajan, the Egyptian Obelisk, the Fountain of the Chains.

The historic center of Benevento is a real marvel.
Clean, tidy and full of history.
There is so much to see: stupendous monuments and evocative testimonies of a city that certainly deserves more prestige
and international limelight.

The holiday in Benevento exceeded my expectations. The city is quiet, tidy, clean, with the main tourist attraction points all concentrated in its historic centre, where you can admire the remains of the period of Samnite and Roman domination for just a few euros. The Cathedral and Trajan's Arch are beautiful. It is worth visiting the Sannio museum, the cloister of Santa Sofia and the Roman Theatre. The Villa Comunale is the green heart of the city and is really well maintained. Thanks to the Benevento Città Spettacolo festival we were able to enjoy lots of good music, shows, exhibitions and many other events, all free. The food is good (even the pizza), with normal prices. I always recommend booking on the day. It is a destination that is right for those who want to spend a few days away from the chaos..

Scusate una certa Grazia F sostiene che a Benevento ci sia un anfiteatro attualmente non agibile, volete essere così gentili a spiegare a questa persona che ha confuso il TEATRO ROMANO, sempre aperto, agibile e visitabile, con un anfiteatro che esiste solo nella sua immaginazione? Grazie

Ha ragione, Benevento ha un teatro romano visitabile ma possiede anche ( lo sanno in pochi ) un anfiteatro scoperto negli anni 80 nei pressi della stazione appia ( anzi una parte è sotto questa stazione ), è molto grande e fu molto importante in epoca romana , dopo i primi scavi che portarono alla luce alcuni resti , tutto fu interrotto e un magnifico e grande reperto del passato giace li , dimenticato da tutti.
