A MUST see!!!
Incredible history and ruins. Don't miss the museum. A guide makes it even more incredible. Better than the Greece ones. Hard to believe it was just over 50years ago that you could backup your truck and take what you wanted....

Reviewers are overly generous with their stars. Yes the Greek style temples are amazing in person, but as far as the museum experience goes, it's lacking and not worth going unless you are there on the way to something else. The temples are the only thing going for it, and only the central one is cool, the other two are smaller or less preserved. There's no coordinated way to follow the "sights," despite the early sign that said to follow a red or blue path. You wander at will as no one and no sign points you to go a certain way. There's a whole lot of ruins behind the temples but you could waste time simply determining which is worth seeing. They are ruins after all, 90% of the time you don't know what you're looking at. I suppose this is why there's a guidebook for sale but guidebooks should only enhance an experience not make you completely beholden to it.
This is truly one of those few museum places where I would advise going with a guide tour.
The small two room indoor museum displayed the tomb paintings they found. Quite interesting to see both daily life and rituals of the pre-Roman period.
The best part is the line of historical experts that were here to display and inform you of all the artifacts (coins, weapons, herbs, etc) of the period - this was truly delightful and so much fun. This is an unpaid part open to the public, possibly only offered during the weekend I was there.
Overall, value for money and time invested to get to and from relative to other museum experiences is middling at best. I don't regret going but they need to enhance the experience for travelers who really made it out of their way to go.
PS: you can leave large bags at the entrance tent but they don't volunteer it and there's no system. It is trust-based only so don't leave valuables.

Hi, I plan to visit Paestum in Oct 2023. I just want to check the hours of operation. Is the Paestum Archeological Park including the museum open everyday from 9am to 7pm? Are there usually long lineups if I buy a ticket upon arrival? Otherwise, can I get the official website where I can buy a ticket online?

Hi Ronee, Just found your question. Best to check open hours on the web if you can. The CampaniaArtecard lets you skip lines and visit many sites in the region. There was no line for the archeological park when we went there. The museum was partially closed and had a line at mid-day. Go early or late to the museum to avoid waiting.
Stay overnight in Pompeii to get to the ruins before the tour busses.
If your trip includes the Amalfi coast we can strongly recommend the Agerola Paradise Resort hotel above Amalfi. The views are incredible and it is above the main action. You can take a local bus from Amalfi (cheap). Take the ferries between cities on the Amalfi coast.
When we were in Italy they were very strict about proper Covid masks. Have fun!

Buenas tardes!
Gracias!

Lamento no poder ayudar.

Hi! I want to buy the tickets for Peestum online, but I want to be sure about sth... When I get to the part to buy the tickets, on the tickets there is the stamp ''(date) at 8:30... Does that mean that I can only get in at 8:30?
Thanks a lot

We just visited on a Sunday in late September. We just bought the tickets there at the ticket counter. There was no need to buy ahead. The place is huge, relaxed, and off the tourist beat a bit.
