Schildbürgerstreich an der Gondel-Bergstation Saslong in St. Christina

Wir sind seit vielen Jahren in den Osterferien im Skigebiet und es gefällt uns nachwievor sehr gut. Der Einstieg in die Sella Ronda von St. Christina kommend war in der abgelaufenen Saison von der Bergstation der Gondel Saslong zum Sessellift Sochers-Ciampinoi durch eine meterhohe Absperrung und einem unfreundlichen "Aufpasser" (der einen nicht durch das Drehkreuz direkt zum weiterführenden Lift gehen ließ) geprägt. Die Skifahrer konnten dadurch nicht direkt zum Sessellift, sondern müssen eine längere Strecke bergauf schieben, die Piste Saslong queren um den Sessellift Suchers zu benutzen und dann über die nicht sehr ansprechende Abfahrt wieder zum Sessellift Suchers-Ciampinoi durch Absperrungen zu fahren.
Schildbürgerstreich ist die wohl höflichste Bezeichnung für so einen Unsinn!
Bleibt nur zu hoffen, dass in der kommenden Skisaison wieder die Belange der Gäste im Vordergrund der Entscheidungen stehen und derartige weltfremde Absperrungen der Vergangenheit angehören.

Fantastic ski area

Fantastic ski area with good lifts access to all areas. Whilst visiting do the green and orange sella ronda. It's a great way of seeing other areas of the Dolomites so that you can decide which areas you want to revisit. Beware unless you are experienced do not take the alternative ronda routes as there are some steep/narrow black runs on these.
Stick to the normal and it's red and blue runs. Ski bus access is good and frequent. When we visited it was unseasonally warm and whilst there wasn't loads of natural snow, Selva used snow cannons and managed their pistes well. This meant that 180 out 180 runs were open but did become slushy and heavy mid afternoon. If visiting at this time of year and it's warm, I would recommended getting the first lift at 0830 and finishing early. Selva isn't a party place but there are a few good bars for apres ski.

Si te gusta esquiar, el ambiente tirolés y la buena comida en pistas, este es tu sitio, los Dolomitas. Mi experiencia en Dolomitas, en concreto en Val Gardena y Alta Badia data de hace 23 años. He esquiado en otras estaciones de Alpes, tanto franceses, suizos y austriacos, pero si hay que poner en la balanza la relación calidad - precio, la palma según mi modesta opinión, se la lleva los Dolomitas, de ahí la razón de que haya repetido mi destino de esquí en Val Gardena todos estos años, exceptuando los dos años de pandemia, que tanto hemos sufrido todos.

Not impressed with Selva

Poor lift interlinking compared to Austria. If Val Gardena wants to be the World Championship host in 2019 it better do something about the lifts and the buses. Buses *should* stop at the lift station but no…they have to stop 300m away from the lift station. My husband has chronic fatigue and is trying to ski but the amount of walking and carrying skis is totally depleting his energy. The piste map does not show blue runs at the top of Dantercepies which are shown on the piste. Wanted to get a bus to the blues at Plan de Gralba. The first 354 bus only went as far as Plan so what use is that?? Buses are rarer than hen’s teeth!! We are heading back to Austria from now on - Val Gardena is not worth the effort. It’s just a s**t ski area. Even the nursery area at Nives- none of the lifts interlink?? It is just rubbish! I know people will disagree with me but I’ve worked in Switzerland and Austria for over 3 years in ski resorts and Selva is the worst!

Very well prepped slopes. Compared to St Anton in Austria the black slopes where easy here.
Overall a very nice Holliday. You can be a good to very bad skier and still enjoy selva in Val Gardena.
The town was charming and the food good.

We stayed in Selva as a base for a weeks skiing in Val Gardena, the Sellaronda and beyond. There really is something for everyone here. There are easily accessible nursery slopes for the newbies in every town and village in the area. There are Cruisey Blues for family days out. Try the blues runs at Alpe di Suise with a stunning backdrop. Access via the gondola out of Ortisei. There is a huge network of blue runs above Corvara accessed via the Sellaronda. If reds are your thing you won’t know what to do with yourself but pick a few of the Great 8 runs which include several World Cup runs. Do not miss the 10.5km run from Secada into Ortisei. Not difficult but very beautiful and seems to go on and on. Thrill seekers will have to seek out the black which are great. Top tip. If doing the Sellaronda anti-clockwise take the block from the top of the Dantercepeis; it’s quieter and easier than the red when it gets chopped up in the afternoons. For the competitive try the Sellaronda both ways at one go. You can expect occasional queues especially on the Sellaronda but it’s a small price to pay for some fabulous skiing. There is 1200km of connected pistes. Where not connected by lift or piste there is an excellent ski bus service throughout the area. The views will stun, the refuges satisfy, the mountains inspire.

Wow, wow, wow : fantastic hiking!!!

We visited in early September because our goal was hiking in the area around Ortisei. And wow, wow, wow!!
Ski lifts, cable cars, furniculars are everywhere. Not 100% of them operate in the offseason but the maps available at hotels are pretty specific. Be sure to double check hours of operation so you can time your return correctly. Each day was spectacular and different. We stayed in Ortisei and sometimes took buses at the start or end of our days. Some of the trails are not open in the fall season (after Sept and before ski season starts) so be sure to do your research if going in say, October or November. The conditions can become too reacherous for hiking (the week after we left it snowed at some of the higher trails and they were closed to hiking) and I think they do trail maintenance.
My only less positive comment would be that the buses were always packed with many standing. It's hard to imagine how people manage with skis! Perhaps there are many more buses in ski season - but we could have used more buses on the routes in September. This goes for the buses to/from Bolzano as well.
If at all possibe - go see this gorgeous part of the world!

Settimana bianca passata con i consueti panorami mozzafiato e la grande professionalità sulle piste. Unico appunto: la serie di reti che da qualche settimana impediscono agli sciatori di fruire liberamente (come fino all'anno scorso) della Sasslong, ma credo ci siano delle discussioni in corso che speriamo vengano risolte
