Gorgeous place to visit, not expensive and can pay entry online easy enough. Very picturesque with a few information boards round for those interested in the history of it.

Whalley Abbey is a former Cisterian Abbey, it is now a religious retreat for praying. It dates back to the 14th century and sits at the side of the river Calder.

Beautiful tranquil area and quite a large site for abbey ruins . Lovely gardens and gatehouse. A cafe is available on site. There is a small entrance fee on site and if a volunteer isn't around then you can scan the QR code and pay although this may take a few minutes to do. Only £3 each but well worth it. You can also stay at the abbey too. Worth walking down the road to visit the other gatehouse which is looked after by English Heritage. Very peaceful.

We struggled to find up to date information about Whalley Abbey on line so took a leap of faith and visited early in July 2022. We were so pleased that we did as we had an amazing time. We had coffee and home made scone in the lovely cafe, before spending at least 1.5hours walking around the gardens and ruins. The gardens are beautiful - so well designed, planted and cared for, mostly by volunteers, I think. The ruins are really interesting with information boards where needed. Something I found particularly wonderful were the vistas we were continually treated to, through arches, tree lined avenues, doorways etc. Would not hesitate to recommend and look forward to visiting again soon. The gardens are open 9am - 5pm and cost £3 for adults - less for others.

Two of us visited this Magnificent gatehouse and gardens of the Abbey house with the extensive remains of this medieval abbey. The grounds are well maintained and a number of borders with flowering plants and shrubs can be enjoyed. A courtyard coffee shop with outdoor seating is available for refreshments.

Whilst staying at the nearby Northcote Hotel we visited this old abbey. There is no admission fee so you can wander around at any time at your leisure. It’s approximately 1000 years old and a former monastery. Most of the buildings are in ruins but still well worth seeing. You can imagine how imposing it was in its former glory. If you like old buildings this is a must place to visit.

There is no admission charge and the grounds of the ruin provide a pleasant venue for a lazy stroll. It is not overly impressive

Interesting place to visit. It has an interesting atmosphere and you are free to walk around - no admission fee, Definitely worth a visit.

We have just spent a night at this delightful place. The setting is spectacular. It has a very calm atmosphere. The rooms are cosy and very quiet.
This is a wonderful place to stay.

Stayed for two nights on a college residential. Adam and the team were great. Everything was excellent. Food was very good and plentiful. Would highly recommend.

Sorry but cant help, it was quiet on our visit and dont remember seeing any dogs, or signs in the grounds or reception.
Entry Fees
It’s £2 for adults and 50p for children aged 5-16.
Seniors have reduced fee of £1.25. Pay in office up house front steps if kiosk is not staffed.
This small fee gives you access to all the Abbey ruins, gardens and a short river/woodland walk.
Main house not generally open to visitors as it’s a residential conference centre.
Quite a bargain.

Depending on your age & fitness level & you knew the quickest route certainly less than 10 minutes. You need to ask for Broad Lane, or from train station cross the road, at the end of Broad Lane, turn left & your walking towards the Abbey which is on the right. My husband reckons only 6 minutes.

It was free to look round outside but a very small charge to go inside the building like £2 or £3 it doesn't say on the website so do call 😀

I`m not sure, as the day we went the cafe was undergoing renovations, so closed. There was no one around to pay so we just wandered round the gardens for a short while before going into Whalley to find tea rooms and loos. Sorry i can`t help.

It also states "Prices are a guide only and may change on a daily basis"
I could not verify these prices as no one was around to ask so a phone call may be required!
It is a beautiful peaceful place on the banks of the River Calder, the gardens in spring are glorious!
