Popped into these gardens when walking past. Nice little kitchen garden with a variety of herbs. A bit dilapidated with confusing roped off areas. Still charming but in need of a gardener. Wouldn’t go out of my way to visit though unless you need a nice free 30 minute interlude with small children as it is next to a playground and there are some fun areas the kids would like to explore.

A voir surtout l'été. Il est très pédagogique. Un endroit pour se détendre et apprendre de la nature.

C'est un espace historique réactualisé et magnifiquement entretenu par un jardinier qui semble amoureux du lieu. Et les animations pédagogiques, estivales ou patrimoniales y sont appréciables. Mais le problème des plages d'ouverture "ordinaires" est désagréable, notamment pour les touristes. En effet il faudrait élargir les horaires en week-end et soirées estivales = un emploi à créer !

Entouré d'un haut mûr, le jardin est accessible par une petite porte presque dérobée 😁
Très joli jardin bien entretenu
Les indications vous présentent les plantes utilisées pour soigner, les légumes ainsi qu'un historique du lieu.
Le tout dans des carrés de terre surélevés entourés de branchages pour l'entrée, du béton par la suite.
Le fond du jardin est plus sauvage

Un petit potager pédagogique fait avec les enfants des écoles. Petit coin de paradis au dessus de la corderie royale, et à deux pas du centre ville. Soigné, agréable..

C'est en nous rendant à la Corderie Royale que nous avons découvert ce potager où nous avons passé un moment agréable, en découvrant les différentes plantes, dont certaines inconnues de nous (ou tout simplement que nous ne connaissions pas sous leur forme "naturelle").
L'endroit est calme, incite à la détente.

Se reposer sur le banc , humer les fruits et fleurs de saion , demander des conseils au jardinier très convivial, découvrir les plantes aromatiques /médicinales et autres .. rêver , se poser sur le banc pour lire en écoutant les oiseaux etc etc .. incontournable a Rochefort!

Comme la majorité des endroits à visiter à Rochefort, ils ferment entre midi et deux et ensuite à 17H. Peut être une politique touristique à revoir à Rochefort. Du coup pour nous ni hermione, ni jardin.

The word 'Potager' in French means a kitchen garden. And 'Roy' or 'Roi' refers to the King. So this is a royal kitchen garden at Rochefort. It was founded at the end of the sevetneenth century under the autocratic reign of Louis XIV: so all the vegetables and fruit that were grown there were ostensibly intended for the royal table whenever the King or the Cardnial de Richelieu was in residence at Rochefort; but it mostly meant that royal friends and representatives were the ones to benefit most.
The kitchen garden was restored nearly twelve years ago, and it is now possible to see how the plants were systematically and very skilfully grown for domestic use. Herbs were harvested too and medicinal plants whose potent and very positive properties still have much to teach us about natural medicine.
Avoid the rain when the garden is muddy, but go on a fine day when you can appreciate the clean lines of the gardening which owes so much to the Arabic mathematics of the original Arabian gardeners who laid out the terrain.
The Potager du Roy is not cheap, although booking online might be helpful, especially for families; but the charges seem to change every season, so it might be worth a phone-call and get a 'real' reply. But it's all worth the effort.
Rochefort itself is a charming seventeenth century fortified marine town on the river running out to sea. There are few modern buildings to spoil it; but a definite 'ancien regime' atmosphere still reigns over it and the Potager du Roy is very much part of that 'Sleeping Beauty' kingdom. Bon chance!

Sympathique endroit pour faire connaître plantes , fleurs et même animaux des jardins de grand mère . Ce jour là , les hérissons ont eu beaucoup de succès auprès des enfants !
