Roopkund is a great trek that has it all. It journeys from vast meadows through dense jungles onto rocky paths before converging into a lake snow bounded by mountains all across.
We have a complete review of the trek on our website too.

Roopkund (locally known as Mystery Lake, Skeletons Lake)[1] is a high altitude glacial lake in the Uttarakhand state of India. It lies in the lap of Trishul massif and is famous for the hundreds of human skeletons found at the edge of the lake. The area is uninhabited, in the Himalayas at an altitude of 5,029 metres (16,499 feet).[1] Surrounded by rock-strewn glaciers and snow-clad mountains, the lake is a popular trekking destination.[2]
A shallow lake, having a depth of about two metres, Roopkund has attracted attention because of the human skeletal remains that are visible at its bottom when the snow melts.[3] Researchers have concluded that the skeletons are the remains of people killed in a sudden, violent hailstorm in the 9th century.[4] Because of the human remains, the lake has been called Skeleton Lake in recent tim

The Roopkund lake trek is a spectacular one, but it's also pretty challenging. It's usually not recommended for first-timers because it can get quite tough as you get closer to the lake. However, there are some fit first-timers who have managed it in the past.
You'll start off in the green meadows of Uttarakhand, with beautiful views and open skies. As you gain altitude, the landscape becomes more barren, and there are some tricky sections that are rocky and will slow you down.
You won't be camping near the lake, but you'll be camping a day's trek away. In the morning you'll set off towards the lake, to return by evening to your campsite. This is usually the hardest day of the trek. The weather is very unpredictable here, and from the camp, you'll often see storms raging in the distance.
The lake itself used to be quite a sight, with human and horse skeletons all around. However, as the years have passed, poachers and tourists have taken skeletons from the shores back as souvenirs, so there are more at the bottom of the lake than around. However, the lake is always silent and still, and there are no settlements around, so you'll get the full eerie experience.
Most people now visit Roopkund to take on the challenge of going up to 16,500 feet (that's higher than Leh!) and seeing the Himalayan giants like Nanda Devi, Nanda Ghanti, and Trishul.
There are two seasons for the trek, and each will affect how your trek is. If you go between Sep-Nov, the weather is usually clear and you'll get good views of the giant mountains around. However, there is snow in the upper reaches, and the lake is usually frozen over at this time, so don't expect to be able to see too many skeletons.
You can go in summer too, from Apr-June. The days are warmer by a few degrees, but the lake is thawed so you'll be able to see to the bottom of it.
In terms of temperature, Roopkund is always cold. At night, regardless of which season you go, the temperature drops a few degrees below zero. During the day, you can expect temperatures between 10-18 degrees in both seasons. Naturally the snowy patches in Sept-Oct make it colder.

A trekkers dream ..ever changing landscapes, trek through forest then the unforgettable miles of lush green meadows, then the rocky terrain and the last leg thru snow to the summit. A 6 day moderate to difficult trek but worth every bit of the strain

I visited the lake in the month of May 18.
This time the trek was bit snowy however mostly untouched as the trekking had not commenced for the tour and travel companies.
The trip was a memorable one keeping me mesmerised with the beauty.
Kalu Vinayak temple is must see place as I had to physically clear the snow to get a glimpse of the temple situated on a mountain top.
Due to heavy snow there was some scarcity of drinking water. However it was managable.
I must recommend the trek as the final summit is like a piece of cake after long trekking and I am sure the lake will leave you mesmerised with it's view.

It was a very successful trip. We got a life time experience. We didn't have much expectations so we were amazed by the views and snow. Journey is a bit tough but it's totally worth it.

“The Roopkund trek experience was amazing, whole trek gives never forgetting moments. Team which includes Pankaj bhaiya(Guide),Naresh ji,Surendra ,Raju(Bhabhiji) whose hand made delicious food made us to climb there is really awesome. Also the destiny Roopkund & Junargali gives awesome view of Mt.Trishul as well as Nandaghunti. Beautiful Meadows of alibugyal and bedni bugyal will will wash treelines from your mind.Every tiredness is over ruled by this view. I suggest to choose Uttarakhand trip trek(UTT) for this exotic trek.”

Is there going to be snow covered on the ways during the last 10 days of october? We are planning to go during the last week of October 2018 and wants to see snow filled mountains and also to trek on them. Is this possible?

Snowfall should start from october 1st week mostly . Trekking could depend on the amount of snowfall received and if it would be safe . The trek organizer would be in a better position to answer. The issue mostly is when ice melts and walking becomes dangerous and skiddy

Dude you are on a high altitude track and don't expect any luxurious amenities honour Trek wherein you have to walk for 4 days to reach Roopkund so please don't expect full fledged toilets you will be provided with toilet tent which is kind of going outdoors. Looks like you haven't been to Trek before

Hi,
I did my trek on May End, 2016. By that time it was around 15-20c during the day time and the lowest at night was on the last day where we summited and it was around -2c. At nights it was pretty cold but it wasn't unbearable.

I have never been on any kind of trek , but I'm fit.
Should I go for this trek, being a beginner ?

I also did this as my first trek, but I would like to advise to do a beginner / easy trek like Hampta Pass, Kuari Pass (Summer), Chandrashila Climb etc before embarking on this difficult one.
