National Trust property
Not great. Was a ten minute walk from the carpark to the house and garden.
Small sunken garden and quirky little model village feature with a pond.
Didn’t go in the house, it was open but had scaffold outside.

What an incredible place.
From the outside a typically outstanding Cotswold Manor House but step inside and you’ll discover the most interesting collection of themed rooms you’ve ever seen. I’m not sure you could actually see everything in one visit. Make sure you chat to a guide as they are keen to tell you history that you’ll just not be able to discover on your own. Busy at weekends.
Cafe offers a typical N T food and drink selection.
Walk up to the village for an extra slice of the Cotswolds.

If you visiting the Cotswolds, this is worth a visit. It is filled with interesting pieces and the guides a very knowledgeable. We visited on a beautiful fall day and the gardens were beautiful.

Disappointed that it was so crowded making looking at the rooms and exhibits difficult. Having to constantly manoeuvre round people and be jostled, meant the experience was far from enjoyable. A shame because the history of the house and learning about Charles Wade was clearly fascinating.
Your rooms guides were engaging and knowledgeable, but let down by one man who was quite dismissive of my question; it would have been better if he'd been truthful and said he was sorry but didn't know the answer!

Interesting and quirky.
The house is full of an electric mix of items collected by Charles Wade.
I would have found it much more enjoyable if information about the curios had been available. There was almost none. It was frustrating not to know more about the artifacts e.g. age, purpose, origin. There seemed be a single copy of a guide to each room, each of which had a large number of items . I don't like asking the guides and have trouble hearing the response .
That approach doesn't work well anyway when you have so many items and a considerable number of visitors.

What a fascinating place. So much to see, and if you turn away and look back you'll see something new every time! Full to the rafters (literally) with the things collected by Charles Wade. He had so much stuff that some of the exhibits are displayed in rotation! His story is fascinating too. I was also very intrigued by the house itself but can't find any history on it from before Charles Wade acquired it. The gardens are also quirky and very interesting, be sure to read the story of how they were planned. A fabulous afternoon out.

Very quirky place to visit and crowded with the collections, never knew one room to the next what we would be seeing. Eclectic mix of collections ranging from bicycles to samurai warriors to a model village in the garden. Quite dark in some places and not always easy to see everything. Gardens limited in size, mix of planting including veggies

After so many weeks of dismal weather it was great to see the sun and feel its heat. So, we made an instant decision to have a home-holiday this week, and take day visits to various National Trust properties within easy driving-distance. The second of those visits was to Snowshill Manor in the Cotswolds, and were glad we went!
The main attraction here is the contents of the 16th Century manor house and ancillary buildings. The last owner of the manor (before it was gifted to the National Trust), was an eccentric collector of anything that was handmade and ‘of merit and quality’. Every room of the house and the outbuildings is crammed with thousands of handmade objects. There are collections of furniture, travel chests, light and lanterns, paintings, musical instruments, models (particularly sailing ships and old village houses), craft tools, cloth-making machinery, toys, clocks, watches, crockery, glassware, bicycles, distance measuring wheels, machinery, games, sports equipment, musical instruments, clothing, spinning, sewing and embroidery equipment, statues, mannequins, masks, swords, guns, and armour.
The collection completely fills the manor house and invades buildings that Charles Paget Wade had relocated to, when he could no longer find room to bathe and sleep in the manor.
Then there are also garden rooms where the collection continues, there is “Wolf’s Cove” a whole to-scale model port and village.
This is a must for anyone who likes interesting artefacts, and you will need 2-3 hours to do it justice, it is a collection of all collections.
I overheard one visiting lady describing Charles Paget Wade as a ‘kleptomaniac’, which he certainly was not. Kleptomania is an urge to steal and that is not the case, all items were bought or donated gifts.

Snowshill Manor and Gardens was meer dan een bezoek waard. Ik kan oprecht zeggen dat dit het meest waardevolle, intrigerende, creative en warme bevredigende bezoek ever is!
Mede door de bevlogen vrijwilligers die je over alle ins and outs gedetailleerd en gepassioneerd vertellen. (Wat bij the Trust doorgaans een regel ipv uitzondering is) Wat ze niet weten zoeken ze ter plekke op en bedanken je daarna voor de vraag omdat het hun kennis verdiept.
Als je in de buurt bent zeker en anders uit de buurt zeer de moeite van een rit waard.
Het heeft onze vakantie positief gekleurd.

We really enjoyed our time here. Note you no longer reserve in advance and timed tickes are provided on a first come first serves basis so best to arrive early. It took us 10 minutes to walk (uphill) from the car park to the house whilst pushing a wheelchair. Inside the house is all about a very different collection of stuff the owner liked irespective of the price, each room had a different theme of collectibles. We spent 55 minutes in the house itself, then there are the gardens, given we were with a wheelchair we didn't stay long as quite hilly.

I would suggest that you go for the day, as there is so much to see and do and the house is fascinating as well as the lovely gardens. I hope this was of help to you.

In the lower garden, to the front (right) of the House and at the foot of a flight of steps, there was a glorious light purple flower - similar to a hydrangea in style but with very prolific blooms - a really large shrub. Does anyone know what it is ... it should be called "Quite Beautiful"!

Hi, The flower is a Viburnum it comes in different shades from white, pink and purple, if you do a google image search on Viburnum you can confirm it's the bush or shrub you remember.
