An engaging diversity of collection genres was great to peruse. From archaeology through to in particular fine works of art.
With the included audioguide an absorbing account of the museum’s history was given including its founding by a local pharmacist Ludwig Leiner.
An expansive collection of art pieces is displayed, from medieval times along a few following centuries.

This is a lovely and very interesting museum. In fact the building itself is "history", too and I loved visiting.
What always fascinates me and draws my attention and what I loved the most here is the first room you visit, the *Leiner-Saal*: It's the old collection of stones, fossils, stone age up until bronze age finds, also of places such as Unteruhldingen and Kesslerloch cave. The showcases in the room are "history" themselves, so this room is basically a museum within a museum. I absolutely love such displays and spent a long time in that room. There is so much to see, so many objects and such a treasure really. From axe heads to pieces of fabric or thread (stone age!) to carvings to... so many things. :) If this is your thing, you will love this room!
Alas, of course there's a lot more to see. So much about the history of Konstanz, from the middle ages onwards. I found some amusing art as well - symbolic and meaningful of course, but from nowadays' point of view also amusing. Look for the book with eyes. :)
Staff was friendly and helpful and the little shop sells very lovely cards and other items.
Also there's a lovely café - the salmon and spinach quiche was absolutely delicious!

Well worth seeing and interesting if you are interested in the history of Konstanz.
The only thing is that the room with the exhibits is very dark (maybe it has to be that way to protect the exhibits). Therefore, sometimes you can't read the description or can only read it with difficulty.

Das Museum gibt einen guten Überblick über die Geschichte der Stadt Konstanz und der Bodenseeregion. Was mich aber besonders gefesselt hat, war die Sonderausstellung "Konstanz im Nationalsozialismus 1933-1945".

Lots of interesting material on Konstanz' history. Most of the information in German but an English language summary pamphlet. The model of medieval Konstanz especially impressive. The exhibition on Konstanz in 1939 and during WW2 very moving, even if most of the info was in German. We certainly enjoyed our visit.

Situé dans un édifice plus que centenaire, ce musée nous raconte les grandes heures de cette cité et ce depuis la préhistoire jusqu’au 20 ème Siècle.

Kunst- und kulturgeschichtliches Museum in der Altstadt, in einem ehemaligen Zunftgebäude aus dem Mittelalter untergebracht. Zeigt Fundstücke aus der Jungsteinzeit über Sammlungen aus dem Mittelalter bis zur Neuzeit. Darunter auch ein interessantes großes Stadtmodell mit Infos zur topographischen Stadtentwicklung bis zum Ende des Mittelalters. Eintritt 3€, Mittwochnachmittag gratis.

Das Rosgartenmuseum ist ein besonderer Ort. Hier findet man nicht nur Geschichte, hier ist das Haus an sich Geschichte, Geschichte der Stadt, Museumsgeschichte und so viel mehr. Gleich hinter der Kasse rechts ist wohl der geschichtsträchtigste Raum, nicht nur das Ursprungsmuseum in Originalzustand, sondern auch ehemaliger Zunftsraum der Metzger und später erste Synagoge der Stadt.
Man sollte unbedingt auf die Sonderausstellungen des Hauses achten. Diese sind sehr vielfältig, sehr gut dargestellt und auch politisch von Bedeutung. Das Haus mit seinen Mitarbeiter*innen und vor allem Leiter zeigt, wie Museum sein sollte. Ausgezeichnet.
Man sollte unbedingt auf die Sonderausstellungen des Hauses achten. Diese sind sehr vielfältig, sehr gut dargestellt und auch politisch von Bedeutung. Das Haus mit seinen Mitarbeiter*innen und vor allem Leiter zeigt, wie Museum sein sollte. Ausgezeichnet.

Der Leinersaal, benannt nach dem Gründer, dem Konstanzer Stadtrat & Apotheker, zeigt den Zustand um 1870 mit Ur- und Frühgeschichte – so erhalten geblieben! (Meine Fotos). Außerdem die reiche Geschichte der Stadt in Original-Räumen und vieles mehr zu entdecken. Lauschiges Café mit Gartenbereich, sehr freundliche, hilfsbereite Mitarbeiter! Mittwochs ab 14 Uhr ist der Eintritt frei, sonst nur ein geringes Entgelt, das sich lohnt!
