I have to say that it is sad that something like this existed: a government bunker near the former capital Bonn. The government would have hidden there in the event of war in order to keep Germany capable of governing. Numerous offices, bedrooms, a large kitchen, a sick bay and a dentist's office can be visited. The biggest cheek is the fully equipped hair salon. While everything outside was being torn down, you could still have the perfect haircut... According to the tour guide, large quantities of food and medicine (hairdressing supplies?) were always delivered, so that you could have spent several weeks there. Since you had to pay attention to expiration dates, things were constantly being replaced. A lot of work... Doctors, technicians, cooks and hairdressers were on hand for the Ernstdall. Now the bunker is no longer needed, so it can be visited. You should see this cheek.

We finally had the opportunity to visit this very special bunker. Although our group was very large, our young guide had the time and patience to answer our many questions. Unfortunately, only a very small part of the bunker is still accessible, but it is the original and gives you the feeling of what a stay of several weeks would have felt like - including a hairdresser and dentist. The association and its volunteer members do a great job.

I didn't think the tour would be so interesting and that you would become aware of what was expected during the 'Cold War'!

We hadn't planned the visit, we were here spontaneously with friends and we were thrilled.
The museum is run by the local history society. A visit is only possible with a guide and it makes sense. Admission is €15 per person. We had the guest card and therefore received a €1 discount per person.
We had a very motivated tour guide who gave us a very lively and interesting introduction to the history. A visit is definitely worth it.
You should take a jacket with you because it gets very cold in the rooms.

Very interesting tour! I did this on a hot summer day. Make sure to bring something warm to wear, because it’s chilly inside. Although you can only visit the “tiny” part that’s turned into a museum, the enormity of the complex is astonishing! I think you can book a tour in English. My German is not so good but as a native Dutch speaker it was not too hard to follow. Especially because they lend me a booklet with all the information in Dutch. I think they might have it in other languages as well. There’s a little cafe at the museum and plenty of parking. A must see on hot or rainy days!

ein "Museum" der ganz anderen Art. Eben wie der Name schon sagt eine Dokumentationsstätte. Beeindruckend was die damals Regierenden haben bauen lassen um im Kalten Krieg geschützt zu sein und das Land doch noch regieren zu können.
Der Guide erklärt gut die Zusammenhänge und Prozesse welche hinter einem Regierungsbnker standen. Losgelöst von den ingteressanten Ausstellungsobjekten und der Bunkeranlage als solcher.
Lohnenswert wenn man mind. 90 Minuten Zeit hat und warm angezogen ist. Draußen waren es bei uns 30 Grad, drinnen nur 12 Grad. Entsprechend "untgerkühlt" kommt man zurück.....

Een deel van dit immense complex is voor het publiek toegankelijk gemaakt. Met een gids maakt je een tour van circa 1,5 uur. Zeer interessant om te zien.
Als je met de trein komt, moet je rekening houden met een stevige klim vanuit het dorp. Met de auto kun je redelijk in de buurt parkeren.

Der Regierungsbunker im Ahrtal war einstmals das geheimste (und auch seinerzeit angabegemäß teuerste) Bauwerk in der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland….dachte man, denn an sich war mittels Spionage jedes noch so kleines Detail auch der Gegenseite bekannt.
Mit der Fertigstellung 1971 war die Bunkeranlage auf 17,3 km gewachsen und umfasste 936 Schlaf- sowie 897 Büroräume. Allerdings hätte es weder der damaligen Detonationskraft einer Atombombe standgehalten, noch wären die geplanten 30 Tage „Überleben unter Tage“ ein realistisches Szenario gewesen.
Dann erfolgte Ende 1989/Anfang 1990 die „Wende“ und damit auch der Rückbau zwischen 2001 und 2006 - nun sind lediglich 203 Meter der ehemaligen Anlage als Dokumentationsstätte erhalten geblieben.
Der Eintritt für eine sehr unterhaltsame Führung kostet 12,- EUR pro Erwachsenem und 5,- EUR pro Kind ab 8 Jahren. Parkplätze sind ausreichend vorhanden (Fußmarsch vom Stadtkern ca. 30 min.), ein kleiner Kiosk wäre auch vorhanden, falls es zu Wartezeiten kommt und man auf die nächste Führung warten muss.

Informativer Geschichtsrundgang. Kaum vorstellbar, welche Dimensionen unterirdisch angelegt wurden. Ein gut informierter und freundlicher Führer rundeten die Besichtigung ab .Auf jeden Fall lohnenswert.
