A visit to Napflion, Greece will be full of pleasant surprises. Besides being an easy-going charming city, it is a wonderful stopover between Athens and Olympia. One of the nicest surprises was the Koroni Distillery. On the road up to the fortress, you will find this hidden gem. Kononi manufactures Ouzo and a variety of other fruit-based liquors, we were treated to a personal tour by the owner and his wife, who were charming, friendly, and so very proud of the business and its long history. Having remained in the same family for generations, and now run by his son, the building is a mini-museum containing photos, memorabilia, ancient equipment, even the original documents dating back over 100 years when it was established. We learned a lot about the various types of liquors, how they are made, and how they should be consumed. Even sampled a few. It was a lovely way to spend an hour, and we were really happy to find it. Just call before you visit to ensure that they are in. You will be welcomed with open arms.
